I know you can make more power on meth. but if you only wanted to raise the knock limit of a say a high compression motor on pump gas would it bet better to tune on Water or alcohol? and does alcohol steam clean the combustion chamber or is that just straight water?

I would say alcohol becuase of the octane enhancement.

Water is typically used to cool not really add octane.

Both keep cylinders clean. Not clean cyclinders.. well a little gradually.

If you want to clean cylinders GM makes Top Engine Cleaner.. run that.

Thats a long explanation that can be found by reading the archives of this forum.

Water basically has infinite octane since it will not combust, but it is also basically inert in the chamber. It has very high latent heat so it can absorb alot of the in chamber heat that would contribute to knock.

In practice, alcohol is the better choice since it also has a fair latent heat that reduces intake temps, has a higher octane than gasoline, and, it is not inert and thus releases energy in the combustion process.

I am switching over to water and see how it works, i just can;t keep guessing on the a/f ratio. Water does not effect the a/f ratio methanol, alky does. Will be leaning back to 12.5 a/f and adding just enough water to stop knock, maybe it wont work but its worth a try.

12.5 yeow.. I have never seen anyone tune one of these motors that lean.

Richie on twin nozzles ran 9.88@138.9 Thursday nite on 100 octane. AF was 10.5 on the run.

We're weening him down from the 100 to 93.. he should be able and pop the 9.99 on 93 octane 109 block car.

I've been beating my motor to death on twins.. no issues at 11.0-11.3:1.

No preignition, detonation, etc..

Funny how everyone has no issues, except me? I must be doing something wrong, just not sure what it is just yet. If it breaks without warning again, i won;t be too happy. I guess i have to tune for 10.5 a/f now to be on the safe side, but still would like to see the effects of just water ,on knock control.

Man racing a engine **** happens. If you dont want to break parts.. dont race it.

Careful with the water.. you need to severely step down the nozzles. On the 15+10 combo you have.. you will hydro your motor :frown: and have more problems.

If you set the PAC factory defaults and turn the gain up 3/4 of the way up... it is idiot proof on a Buick...

Richie runs out of the box GN1's and a GTQ70, stock rods, medium hyd roller.

He's probably the fastest on stock rods I know off.. dunno.. 138.9 mph
