Went to a local cruise last nite. They give out around four trophies. About 200 cars. Here is a way to piss off the typical vintage car owner. Award a trophy to a brand spanking new Camaro right off the showroom floor with the hood shut. Lots of grumbling going on about that.

I don't even look at most of the new camaros, mudstains, corvettes, etc when they put them in a show. Why waste my time at a car show, when I can waste it some other time at any car dealer?? Seeing one of them win an award would piss me off as well. Makes you wonder why anyone would buy a vintage car and restore it...just to have some snot-nosed kid with Mommy & Daddy's money get aknowleged for his new car that he knows nothing about.

I do agree. I usually just give the new stuff a passing glance because anyone with money can buy it that way right off of the lot. Unless there has been a lot of customizing to it. There is just no dedication or sweat equity into them. I feel like it is a "Hey look at me I have money." I do know that there are some special new cars out there but I still don't think they fit the spirit of the cruise-ins. I understand that anyone with money can buy an older car as well but you have history and someone who at least cares enough to invest in perserving that history.

I don't have an issue with new cars at cruises if they are performance oriented but to give one a trophy??? For what? I can see if the car is new and has been modified but not bone stock.

We too have a car show that gives trophys to the first 200 cars that show up. No matter what you drive you get one.

Ah, car shows... If you go for trophies most likely you're going to eventually get so pissed off you don't go anymore. If your primary reason is to be around cars and like minded people then they can be fun.
