"wet" thread head bolts?

I'm just getting ready to get my engine back from the machine shop to assemble on friday and read a thread that requires I ask this question.

In the 'got milk' thread a responder says that buicks have 'wet' thread head bolts/studs that extend into the water jackets that need to be sealed.

Not that I don't trust the guy(so don't take offense), but is this true? Can someone please explain the procedure?

Back in the '80's I rebuilt a buick 350 and did not seal the head studs and had no issue's.

Thanks for the help.

all bolts/studs that hold the heads on go into water ports. they need to be sealed. there are many different methods you just have to chose which one to use.

Use a good high quality teflon based thread sealer, and if you're using bolts, DO NOT retorque, this will break down the seal.
Studs are OK to retorque and actually often require it, but not bolts. Not these bolts that is.
