Only loan out things i don't want. People are stupid and even more so when they are using something that belongs to someone else.

I loaned out a floor jack once (brand new never got to use it) and the guy tried to use it to jack up his boat that was in the water but close enough to the pier to use the jack on it. I didn't even ask what he was trying to do.

you can take my wife and kids anytime you want...you can take any of my tools and equipment too...but I want the tools and equipment back...ahhh and maybe the kids after a few days.......

I dont lend out spray guns...the last time that happened someone sprayed polyester primer and did not clean out the gun.....turned to rock inside all the fluid passages....never again....then there was the chainsaw...even gave him a can of gas with oil mixed in it.....well he used that all up and just used regular gas....brought it back seized up....most recently was a set of car dollies...rated at 1500 lbs apiece..wanted to move a shed that was on his driveway...not a problem....until it started to slid down the hill and hit the stress crack in the concrete and ripped off 12 of the 16 casters...but he did buy me a new set

I wont lend out Money.......heard the "I will pay you back next week" crap too many times

Oh, I forgot. I also won't lend out my torque wrench anymore. I lent it to buddy my to torque down his heads on his Honda. When he started the car up it was leaking oil from the front of the head. He retorqued it and still no dice, so what does wingnuts do? He uses my torque wrench as a pry bar to take off all the head stud bolts. When I got it back it no longer clicks when you reach the torque spec.

I finally learned my lesson when I went to put my motor together and realized my torque wrench and ring compressor were gone, I forgot who i lent them to , had to re-buy, low and behold about 6 months later my friend who had moved out of state calls, then the bell in my head rang. Yes he had them. After i cursed him out, he shipped them to me, at least i have 2 now!

I lent out my house and my car while I was up at bowling green. Unfortunatly the car was fine and the house didn't burn down. The eagle TSI is insured for several grand more than book and I'd like to rebuild the house with about 4 garage stalls! The keys to the buick, gto and camaro SS were hidden.

AMEN!!! I have my Snap-On calibrated annually. It has never been off more than 7 ftlbs @ 200 ftlbs UNTIL  I lent it to a buddy and when I got it back I open the case and the damn thing was left set at 122 ftlbs and for probably the whole 12 days he had it. Well got it recallibrated and it was 26.3 lbs low @ 200 ftlbs.

Ps. If you have never had your torque wrench calibrated find a shop and have it done if you are ever going to work on you turbo car!!!! Jon Hanson

Thanks for that info Jon, I did not know that they could be recalibrated. I am definately going to check mine out.

I work on overhead cranes so bolt strech is something I am intimatly familiar with. There are some shops that will just test and adjust but if they cannot give a certificate that is traceable to N.I.S.T. (national weights and mesures) then find another shop. If your gonna go through the time do it correctly. In my opinion. Jon Hanson

Sorry I’m not real timely with this thread; but I just found it.

I used to have a neighbor that I would loan things to; with the condition that he keep them till I need it back (free storage for me). He’s a neat-freak engineer type; and I’m not. Worked out well till the SOB moved and left everything dumped at my garage door.

Computers. You never know when they will use them to check something out on the net and it comes back with a nasty virus on it, or wont work at all.

Drag radials. Been there. Came back bald.
Agree on the torque wrench.
My OBD2 scan tool... well, any of my electronic diagnostic tools.

It depends on who the loaning is to, really. I have no problem letting some of my car buddies borrow my OBD2 reader, but lent it to someone who left it outside in the car in sub zero weather. The LCD screen is a mess now.
No one touches the Regal. The Cruiser, no one can drive, since I would only lend it to family, and neither of my sisters or father can drive a stick.

Oh.. heres a biggie. Kinda car related. Car audio equipment! Never lend someone a built box with subs. Ugh.

When I had my Astro, and sometimes people would ask to borrow it to move. Knowing how people treat U hauls, I told them I'd help them move instead if they pay for my gas.

I don't have as much an issue with people borrowing car stuff as I do with my drums, guitars, and recording equipment.

I had an open trailer that was in mint shape. Loaned it out to a buddy for a while, the fenders came back w/ bends in them where he ws tying down the car to. When i pointed it out, he said it was there when i gave it to him. Never again.
