Someone asked this in a starter motor thread so I figured I'd answer it here.
Fusible links on the starter: 1 powers the cooling fans
1 powers the lights
1 powers the starter switch, theft deterrent if installed, horn relay, power brake fuse, ECM battery fuse, stop hazard
fuse, and the power accy circuit breaker.
A separate fusible, orange wire, link runs from the battery to the ECM
