I would like to know what TR owners think (honest/non-flame opinion), of the C5. I may go look at a silver 01 coupe 6 speed this weekend. I've rode in one, and just raced one last weekend. He ran 8.9 @ 82, 2.1 60', and I left a half second after him in "stock" race trim (see sig), so I'll let you do the math:D . I was at the Corvette museum this year in BG, and looked at the c5 frame with the body removed, and liked what I saw.

Nice car. I looked into them when I bought my Porsche. Great cars and you can get some real deals now I have seen low mile 6 speed cars for around 22K! They do many things so well and can be a blast to drive. Port the heads, LS6 intake, get a bigger cam and a 150 shot could be alot of fun on a C5.

You might want to wait for a while. The new C6's are supposedly coming out about Jan, and you could get the standard vette, with an automatic, with about as much horse as the Z06 has now. (405 horse version). Also, the retail value of the current vettes is going to drop considerably (Z06's especially) when the new onc comes out. I like mine, but I wish that is was an automatic.

Good luck with whatever decision you make

Thanks for the comments so far. TwoLaneBT, once you turn 25, the rates will be better. I did check that first, before I would even go look at one, and it's $70/mo, $500 deduct, and $15/mo. comprehesive for winter month storage. As comparison my $2500 94 S10 4wd blazer, which now just has liability since it's paid for, was $60 a month for full coverage, and the TRs are $38/mo each.

Yea, even in my small town, there are a few, but I figured it would be a good daily driver due to the fiberglass body, and I only live a few miles from work. The Z06 is even more $$, and a hardtop only...why I wanted a coupe. I just like the fact that after a couple years and minimum miles (this one has 9000), they are 20k less $$ than a new one.

CORVETTE

The C5 is such a quantum leap beyond the C4, there's not much NOT to like! The Z06 C5 has pushed the Vette legacy up another notch, also.

The C6 is coming out in the near future, and the pics & engineering advances show that America's favorite sports car will continue to have a dedicated & pleased following.

(NOTE: The super-secret C7 (!) has been spotted by photogs at the GM Proving Grounds, indicating that GM is dedicated to the car's future and is still hard at work making the world's "best-bang-for-the-buck" supercar ever better.)

If you want a good sports car in the 20 to 30 K range the C5 is a good choice but also take a look at a early Viper RT-10 and maybe a Porsche 930.

I would have probaly have went with a 930 if I could have found a good deal on one but I got my 911 at a great price. I need to save up and buy a turbo 3.3 and sell my 3.2. My car allready has the turbo body, brakes, and suspension. :D

Oh, forgot to mention...the 1st year of the C6 will not offer a Z06 option. If/When it reappears, it's STRONGLY rumored to have more cubes & 450 hp.

A fun future for Corvette fans! :)

Thanks. The new ones sound nice, but way out of my $$ range. I look at the cars on http://www.usedcorvettesforsale.com/ to check some prices, and checked NADA also.

I think you have enough damn toys, lol! Buy a truck and trailer and get stupid fast with one of the TR's. Get a lightning like mine for a driver and a tow rig, they will hang with vettes, might need a chip though.:D

Yea, I know, I need a bigger garage and it's a 3.5 car already. Actually if I ever get around to a truck, it will be a Lightning. I really like watching them run mid 8s at the track, they sound great too. You're right, the one I watched beat a stock LS1 running 8.7s, and he said the truck was stock, 8.5 @84 on a cool night.

Try as I might, I can't learn to like the ass-end of the C5 Vettes. Looks like the ass of a glorified Geo Storm...

Other than that, I like 'em fine! :D

I'm happy with my C4!

Thanks, that's just the mental image I need of the rear of the car, in case I buy it:rolleyes: :D

Barely have the means :) , still owe some on one of my TRs. I considered selling the GN, but really don't think I could do it. Even my kids told me no way, don't sell:cool:
Thinking I may sell the Goldwing, it's the newest and I'm least attached, but it's a sweet ride too.

I bought a '99 BRAND NEW, and it was the BEST daily driver i've EVER owned. A T-R doesn't even come close for a daily driver (in my opinion!).

My buddy @ the plant in BG KY is just under the plant manager and he says the new C-6 doesn't look anything like the images the mags are showing but it'll be brutal in power.

That LS1 is a HOSS. Lot's of options for tuning and upgrades. It's a very respectable engine considering it's a chevy. (I HATE chevys)
