Old timer here, just geting back into my GN. I've got a little port job on the intake and heads. A real art car nl 9", 3.90s and a built tranny. I am currently running an old big shaft 63 turbo. Also have a roller 224. Car runs great, but as with anyone, I want more power !

Question is, from the looks of all that has happened in turbo engineering the past 10-years, would I see more streetable power from, say one of the 66 BB?

I just need a little educationfrom those running a larger turbo!

Thanks

sgrim,

please elaborate.....better spool? Higher boost at cooler temp? Just want to understand the specifics !

Thanks!

I would get ahold of Grumpy on this site, his daughters car went 10.3 or 10.2 at 132 on a 66 trim TURBONETICS turbo.

TurboBuicks.com - Melissa's set up

I believe Jack cotton is the one who suggested the new wheels for grumpy, or at least thats who it was purchased from.

Scroll down in this turbo section and you will find a thread on turbonetic turbos, and the newest wheels that are out.

132mph on a 66 trim is damn fast in my book

i would get rid of the 3.90's unless your running 325's for tires

I totally love my Precision GTQ67BB. It spools quicker than my previous TE61 and has much more mid and upper rannge power. I raced it only one half of a pass, detenated and the rest was history. I went through the 1/8th at 103 mph and hit the brakes when the scanmaser showed 5 deg of knock. Still coasted to a 12.10 at 91 mph! I can't wait to se what this turbo will do with my stroker build. Call Mike at Full Throttle. Wouldnt buy from anyone else. Very knowledgeable

By the way I run 3:73's and will probably drop down to 3:23's this spring. Very lethal on the street but hard on the motor at the track.

That is very helpful feedback. Thank you !

......and I always taken a beating when I post my gears.....but I just luuuuvm

Now I got questions.

What type? 3 bolt or 4, or is it avaliable in both?
What kind of DP needs to be used? v-band or can I use the 5" RJC unit that I drool over in the garage?

Refering to the GTQ67BB

Thanks,

Dan

you say youre just now getting back into your gn.. were you out of the loop for ten years? cuz i would like to know what kind of chip youre runnin.. do you have a boost controller on there already? what sort of torque converter do ya have? what sort of fuel do you often use? what kind of tires. what sort of cold air intake do ya have? intercooler?

I don't "think" you can get the GTQ in a BB.

I choose the GTQ for 2 reasons #1 Jay told me the secret:tongue: and #2 look at the top TSM guys, GTQ is the way to go. Although the GTS is rated for a little more HP and might be a interesting choice, haven't heard much on it yet!

I put mine on a car that had a pt-51 on it. I have had spooling issues with the car from day one! You could NOT spool the 51 on the line. I still have a small problem with the 67 but it still is spools faster than the 51:eek: Plus you can feel the difference right off the bat with the 67, it pulls MUCH harder!

I will post times for the car after the track rental, I am sure it will run 120+ it is a street car, with 17's on it! The one in my Avatar!

I'm pretty sure it's a gtq. I do know that it's an awsome turbo for the street and the strip. It spools like a b***h and has more than I need on the top end (at least more than my recently ejected short block did!!) I'm convinced this car would have run a solid 10 sec pass. I think this is the perfect turbo.

This is a 3 bolt and I use A 3" Terry Houstn downpipe.

Thanks! Sounds like an upgrade is in order. BTW, before I parked her in the weeds, I was running mid 11s, busting off a one time best of 11.20. The difference was in the 60ft....but we all know that is the secret to low ets.

Appreciate the link to Grumpy and Melissa's car, go info there, and an example of what happens when 'everything' comes together. Certainly, a congratsisin order ! Congrats on wowing the crowd and forum with true results !

As for other queries, custom chip with 20 degrees total, but have both the MAF+ and MSD4 so I can further retard timing when needed.

couple last questions, and I do appreciate the feedback thus far.

Who would be the 'good' vendors for a turbo. Looks like Hartline Perf may be one. Any recommendations on a couple more? And Limited/Turbonetics/Precision? Any REAL difference. Or does the prefix GTQ mean a particular brand. sorry guys, but like I said, I've been out of the loop for some time now.

Cal is having a great sale rightnow until December 31, 2006. I will be calling him myself shortly for my upgrade.

Thanks for the interest guys! Don't forget Don Palumbo went a 9.92 with his 67GTQ at Reynolds a few weeks ago. Don's car is a true street car with iron heads and AC that he drives to work a couple times a week.

Cal,

What is the difference between the GTQ, and the GTS?
