WHAT IS THE MAJOR FUNCTION OF THE PLASTIC FABRIC AIR BAFFLE

Hey crowd. I have another stupid question. If I was going to remove the plastic fabric air baffle behind the grill, just for a little cleaner look, is it going to affect anything? I assume it's there for cooling, but does it really serve the purpose?

Does anyone sell reproduction ones? Mine is cracked in few places.
