What is the stupidest question that was asked about you TR at show or cruise?

Once I had a guy ask "whats this here?",and proceed to grab my hot downpipe. That was funny.I have also been asked "why do your seats have the jiffy lube emblem on them?"What are these pipes for?"

I was asked the two stupidest questions just yesterday at a gas stop when an excited fellow walked over. He said, "Dude, do you know what kind of car this is?" I was like yeah, its my car afterall!

He then proceded to tell me how this car was banned by the highway patrol because it was outrunning them. I just smiled as that was a nice thought. :)

Now that's funny.

I get a lot of the Monte SS comments, but this one hurt:

We have a block party every year in my 'hood. I have a band in my driveway, garage doors open, lots of people look at the GN (and make a mental note of where that evil car and the psycho that drives it lives). Anyhow, one of my neighbors has a "new" (latest body style) RX-7. In black. Looks like the Batmobile. Very cool. I've admired it from afar but never actually talked to the guy. I figured he must be a "car guy" to own such a machine. Surely he would know what a GN was. This past summer (after 3 years of being neighbors), we were standing in the street at the pah-tay talking about cars. I complemented him on his RX-7. And he says "that's your black Monte Carlo SS, right?". I started to explain, but it was clear that none of it was getting through. As soon as the word "V-6" leaves your mouth, the eyes glaze over and they get twitchy. He totally killed my buzz. I was pissed the rest of the night.

Educating the masses about the power of the Darkside. It's really a thankless job, but someone has to do it.

...high school comments

them: dude, why would you get rid of your firebird and get an old mans car, the bird was tight

me: because the firebird was a v6 and slow as balls

them: what is that thing fast or something?

me: yes

me(thinking to myself): freegin retard

On the lines of this. I saw something stupid in the Auto Trader today

I saw an 85 GN for sale. Listed as use to be a Turbo V6, now has build Chevy 350, original paint, cars is in excellant condition, Fast!.... $11000

What a retard, he probably thinks his is better because it now has a V8 and faster than the other ones for sale for around $7000

Kyle,

Well since the 84-85 arent super fast by todays standards it might have been a better deal in some aspects.

There is a local guy here with an 84 car. He couldnt find a 86-87 motor setup so he removed the 84 motor and dropped in a 383sbc that went 11.8x @ something like 115mph. Cool thing is he still has all the orginal 84 parts stored in his garage.

In his case it wasnt too dissrespectful to the car :)

i had someone tell me my SS was a sweet GN, too bad:( People have no clue what my 70 GS stage 1 is. I like to keep it that way thou for all those chevy boys out there. But the best comments and reactions i get are from my Hurst/Olds. I can't even remember the stupid things i hear about the lightning rod shifters. "what do you need three shifters for" "those are stupid" " that can't be stock" " dude, do those shifters make your car fast?" "yeah my friend has those in his 82 442 herse"

442 Herse ????? i love when people are so clueless and blurt out rediculous statements.

The most stupid comment I have heard is the jiffy-lube one. I always tell them that in 1987, Jiffy-Lube bought 20,000 base Regals and modified them to their exact specifications. The GN was born! :D

I hate that. They can't tell the difference between a 6 and a J? It curls the opposite way.

hey,shut up f-body boy!;):D

i had an amusing one the other day, kind of gave a ray of hope...a gm minded friend of mine(older chevelles and buicks)was leafing thru the auto trader and came upon an 86 gn with a bbc/t400/ford 9".it had run a blistering 11.2x@118 and the guy wanted $18k for it.

he said:"can't gn's run faster than that with the v6?"

me:"yeah,with the 2004r and 8.5" rear too..."

him:"what a dumbass."

me::D

off topic but still a blown 3.8

i have a guy here who has a 4.7 dakota that he thinks is a top fuel car or something and i told him i'd race him in my bonneville. he laughed and was like "bonneville, what is that?" of course its a supercharged car, but he is stupid so he wouldn't know that. Ended up he is so intimidated by a series 1 3800 for no reason. i thought it'd be funny to get someone scared of my daily driver...

Thats why i love my GS. It doesnt get a second look on the road by people..

Ofocurse running 9.5-11 psi with no cat, and 9" k&N filter sure freaks people out :)

This is a hilarious thread! I've heard alot of the same. Especially the GNX ones, being a 350 twin turbo. The funniest part is when you try to correct them and they argue with you!

I was filling my low milage T at a station when the kid starts asking me how long it took me to build such a nice car. I looked at him and said the car on has 12K on it! Or you always get some kid pumping gas asking you if you want to sell them your car. What are they thinking? Yeah, give me 2 grand and it's yours!

"Hey, those are one of those GNX's that you could just change the chip, add a K&N & run 12's, right? I hear that you can change the chip and do over 200mph".

Heard that one last night! Yeah, lets push a brick through the air at 200mph and see what happens:D

Hey, don't laugh the owner of the Pontiac dealship had 3 GNx's. He has a high milage one in New Mexico. He has his personal one, GNX 178 with 5200 miles on it. In the spring they sold GNX 538 which had about 8000 miles on it, that bum had it advertised on E-Bay not to long ago.

And what is really wild is there is a member in our club that owns GNX 112, which I personally drove. So in a city of 600K people there was 3 GNX's, how many people would believe that.

this one takes the cake

was in biloxi, ms attending some auxilliary training (I'm in the service), and near a casino was a hang out for a bunch of ricers, they had a few domestics there too though. On this particular night, about 4 turbo cars were there, mine, a 240sx with an sr20 swap that he put his own turbo on (cool guy), a turbo 4 banger mustang, and something like a celica that was turbo'd. Anyway I drive up and some guy comes up to me and asks "is this the real thing?" so I tell him yes, he asks me to pop the hood, and it draws a crowd and everyone gapes at the shiny parts. some of them actually knew a little bit about what a GN was. anyway this one candidate for a darwin award is asking questions about the setup, and eventually gets around to pointing to my billet fuel pressure regulator and asks "is that a blowoff valve?". I only laughed in his face a -little- bit.

" Would a stock 87 GN beat a stock 87 Mustang?"

"This Monte Carlo sounds pretty mean, is this the 305 or did you put in a 350?"

as for having a bunch of GNX's, ,haven't seen that, but I knew of a guy in memphis that had a GN and a GNX and his son had a GN, there were three turbo buicks parked in their driveway quite often. saw the GNX on the street once hauling a$$ around a left turn, was kinda neat.

I used to get that a lot in the Typhoon. Where'd you get the ground FX, where'd you get the turbo kit, lowering springs, embroidered seats, etc. It was all stock.

I noticed the older folks at the local cruise-ins check the decal on the A/C box for authenticity. I never noticed that it says 3.8 TURBO on it. I guess when you put together a fake, you forget some of the small stuff.
