Just got my 87 Turbo T almost a month ago, now I have almost $300 saved up.

My car has a set of VDO gauges...oil, water temp and boost.

It also has an adjustable waste gate actuator rod, high volume oil pump, blue top injectors, unsure of the turbo but thought to be a TE-44.

Also have some sort of after market cold air intake with a K&N filter. The cat was swapped for a straight pipe by the previous owner and some Flowmasters were installed.

I'm wondering if I should first go buy a scan master? Or a hot wire kit? Or should I go get the after market reinforcement bracing for my car?

FWIW my car pushes 15 lbs boost tops.

Thanks.

Scanmaster:biggrin: I did new pump, hotwire, boost gauge, scanmaster all at once. But I would say scanmaster 1st to detect KR and other important tuning.

i would say your right on the $. cant/shouldnt do much for tuning without a basic device like a scanmaster... as guessing about knock will surely cost you.and you probly will have it (knock) without suficient fueling,so the hotwire kit is a must as well. after that you will come to see that boost will be limited, anyway,to around 17lbs.without higher octane fuels. and then....you try "alkycontrol" and find 150=200 more hp. and then these cars become very fun/respectable hotrods... IMHO.

Every smart answer will be to get the scanmaster.

+1 for the scanmaster, you also need to varify what chip is in the car.

15psi of boost on a high timing chip is enough to hurt the motor when it detonates.

I would spend a little more and get a Caspers knock gauge and a Powerlogger instead of a Scanmaster. My 2 cents. Brad

I would vote for Spring Cleaning...fresh oil, oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, valve cover gaskets, drop oil pan and check oil pickup (should be clean and open...not covered with fiber from timing gear??). Oil starvation will ruin your day. Finally, a fresh set of valve springs. Jack Cotton can fix you up with parts when he gets back from his honeymoon.

How can I verify which chip I have? Does the chip have numbers on it or something?

Yes, just unplug the orange wire behind the battery positive cable, then walk around to the pass side kick panel.
Pull the factory kick panel out and with a 1/4 inch nutdriver, take the left screw out of the ECM and loosen the right one.
If the car hasnt been messed with, then the small panel that covers both chips will be stuck to the ecm.

Pull the left chip out and look to see if you find any writing on it.

Well I'm not sure what chip this is but here's a few pics I snapped:

Thats not the stock chip:eek: Im not sure who made that chip

Id get a scan tool on it just to varify that its not detonating.

Normally someone would write down on that sticker what injectors its for, and the amount of timing.

Since you have a decent camera, take some pictures of the injectors, just need to varify that they are stock. Should be solid black. :)

I spaced your first post, yes those appear to be the 36# ford blue top injectors. They actually have the ford insignia stamped on them.

Thats why you have a aftermarket chip:o I dont know why i thought you had a stock turbo and injectors.

Anyway, for now, you can get a 30amp 12volt relay and hotwire your fuel pump with some good 8 or 10 gauge wiring. That shouldnt set you back too much.
That or racetronix sells a kit if you want a plug in play.

Also, wouldnt be too bad of an idea to replace the plugs, wires, and 02 sensor all at once.
I like the NGK UR5 spark plugs, red armstrong wires, and denso/bosch/ac delco 02 sensors.

that looks like a chip i had it was from b&e customs.
i would do the spring cleaning first jmo

Thanks. Just placed an order for a scan master last night. Also will be making a trip to the store for a new tranny filter, tranny fluid, fuel filter, I already did change the oil and filter 2 weeks ago so I'd guess they'd be good for awhile.

FUEL PUMP AND HOT WIRE KIT!!!!!!!!!!!

the stock pump sucks and can't keep up with the demands of the stock injectors @ 15 psi of boost.
