I'm buying a 3" downpipe for my '87 GN , it has two options for puck sizes, 1.365 and 1.625
Mods
TE45A
50 lbers
3000 stall
Pypes exhaust
FMIC

Thoughts? I know, search is my friend and I'm sure the topic has been beat to death. However, I couldn't find anything on puck sizes.

Thanks

If you have not ported your WG hole on the turbo you will not gain anything by having the larger puck. If you have boost control problems you should get the larger puck and port your wg hole accordingly.

I think I would go with the larger puck. Might not need it now with a TE45, but down the road you might get into a bigger turbo with a billet compressor.

Agreed. These billet wheels love to make boost. Having that issue now myself. Fabbing a 3.5" ext dp to fix my issue though : - )

X2

Go with the 1.625" Mega Puck.

My billet Wheeled DBB5857SP came from Precision with a .90" hole...I had boost spike & boost creep like crazy.

So I opened up the hole to 1.10" & radiused the port, leaving lots of sealing area for the puck.
Luckily my THDP had a 1.5" diameter puck...Fixed my overboosting issues!

You don't want to open up the hole too much as it can hurt performance, but it would be nice to know that you have some flexibility if you ever change turbos to something that may need it. Besides, most pucks don't line up evenly over the hole, so you have a better chance of it covering with the larger puck if there are any mis-alignment issues.

X3 Bigger puck and port the hole. Just dont go overboard on the hole and not be able to sell it to someone with a smaller WG puck down the road. I think 1.100 is about right as mentioned above.

I bought the down pipe with the standard puck, but I e-mailed them and asked for an upgrade. Hopefully Brian at Gbody will hook it up.

Don't port the hole unless it needs it.

What they are getting at is if you port the WG hole and want to run 28-30 psi then it most likely will be a problem with a rod style WG. It would have too much surface area to push the gate open.
If you put it on without porting, watch boost like a hawk and adjust tune accordingly. You may overboost, even with the rod all the way out.

OMG, if anyone read this out of context...

Man, about time someone got my joke.

Bad V6 - I'm not sure, I want to turn it up till I hit 10.99 eventually. I'm buying up all of the supporting mods to accomplish this goal, I hope. 10.99 is my lifetime goal, I don't need to hit it this summer or anything.

TTA- Thanks for the explanation.
