First, I would like to say hi to all of you, I just bought my first GN a few weeks ago, and couldn't be happier.

Here is my situation: I have about 1,700$ give or take 300, to spend on my GN at the moment. I HAD already decided what turbo I was going to get, what fuel injectors, and all that good stuff. But after reading a little bit, and seeing different people's responses, I am having second thought about the turbo I am choosing. My goal was to make a fast DD, and ultimatly, take a Cobra(buddy has one, long story)

Here is my current setup:

87 GN
bored out throttle body
stock heads just bored out a little
new timing chain and gaskets
new turbo inlet bell
373 posi
rebuilt tranny
some chip the owner before me put on, and a pitbull one on the side
it has the stock dual exhaust, and a gutted cat
I do believe it has and adjustable wastegate

My proposed setup:

TE44C turbo
42 1/2lb injectors
Poston's HP fuel pump
Poston's HP fuel regulator
Duttweiler intercooler neck

I've called Postons and Kirban, and they both recommended the 44C to me, but after seeing a few people say that the 44c was a great turbo, but couldnt wait for bigger, gets me kinda sketch on it. From my point, if I'm going to drop 770$ on a turbo (Im 17,so thats a LOT of money to me) I better be buying a turbo that Im not going to want to replace in a few months or a year.

What would you recommend? Stay with my current setup? Or look into a bigger turbo?

In all honesty, I searched, and I didnt go through every thread, but I looked at anything that would potentially be helpful. And I do see that thread below me regarding these two turbo's, but it doesn't address a money issue, or from where to start. I apologize if this was an inconvinience.

Thank you with much appreciation,
-Tyler

Scrap the 42lb. injectors and get 50's or 60's and a good Turbotweak chip which will do a lot for driveability and performance.

Alky. kit is always nice unless you don't care about the problems with race gas and additonal tuning/learning and the O2 sensor issues.

After the 44 turbo in size you will need a converter stall increase.

Run the proper size tires for those gears to get them back down to 3.42 ratio. ;)

How fast do you want to go?

How fast is that Cobra?

Thanks for the help.

With 50 or 60lb's, my gas mileage will die, right? This is my daily driver, so gas mileage is EVERYTHING.

I dont really wanna do alk injection.

Would just this TC work:

TP07 TORQUE CONVERTER ORANGE BRAWLER $315.00

3000 stall, anti balloon plates & all high quality internal parts needed to handle your needs,

Or Postons has a 2800 stall locking TC for like 350 or something.

What size tires do I need?

I want to be able to take people from a dig,or from a roll, and just stoplight and 1/4 mile times.

The Cobra is an 04. He runs 11.98 1/4. I'd like to see a 11.5 if possible. 11.5 and I die a happy kid.

Before you get to worried about all of that stuff, get rid of that stock exhaust...It's killin ya.

A TE-44 can get you an 11.5. You will need race gas, race chip, good tires - either slicks or "street" slicks, high boost - 26# and a lot of seat time and TUNING.

Mod #1 - GET A SCAN TOOL! - a ScanMaster is a stand alone tool and a good start. Without a scan tool you will ot be able to make your car run to its potential AND you will hurt it if running high boost/timing.

Mod #2 - fuel pump, hotwire kit, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, a dump pipe, K&N filter, good tires and a good known chip. Put in good gas (at least 100 UL) run 20# of boost and see what your car runs.

After you tune that to its potential, it is time for the turbo, I/C, injector upgrades.

Thanks for the help.

I got access to a scan tool right now. The guy lives 30min away from me and I just had the scantool plugged in the other day, and everything was fine. A little detonation, but we fixed it with some octance boost.

I called a new place today and got a quote for all the following:

te61 turbo with ported elbow
42 1/2lb injectors
92octane chip
adjustable fuel regulator
high performance fuel pump(I think its Red armstrong..the walbro modded fuel pump)
Duttweiler intercooler neck

all for 1343 OTD. and another 250ish for the scan tool.

What do you think of that? I will be adding a 3000 stall TC in a month or two, and after that, a scantool of my own. Do you think it is worth the money, or should I just not go for it. I don't really have the time or money to wait for headers, exhaust, then all this stuff, the only reason I have this money now is because the car I bought was 3g's cheaper than I thought it would be. I'm in high school, and Ill only make around 300-600 a month, so exhaust isnt in the books at the moment.

Should I go for my new option for that price?Or is it too much?

We have also tuned to car a little bit now. I got more voltage on my TPS,about a 1/2 volt more. was~4.27 and now~4.76 with an idle of .48 with car off.

Just to add something, 50 or 60 pound injectors will not hurt at all on a daily driver. Won't affect gas mileage.

If you plan to do more street racing, then going bigger on a turbo won't help unless you turn up the boost and have the octane to support it.

I say at the moment get the fuel pump with a hot wire kit, adjustable fuel pressure regulator and the scanmaster.

My two cents!

I can get the fuel pump hot wire kit(you're talking the O2 kit right?) and fuel pressure regulator all at the same time w/ this kit.

50lb injectors are a little more than I can afford right now. The 42's will fit in my budget.

I can get the higher octane when I need it and be able to turn up my boost.

Dannyo- Do you think my ideas are too large? Or are they feasable? When I buy, whatever I am going to buy, I would like to do it all at the same time, because the guy is going to give me a good deal, kind of like a giant package deal, so it saves me money.

What about ordering all the things(if you think those are a good idea) and installing the fuel system first, get that working, and then the turbo?

What is the difference between PT and TE turbos?

TE-61 $609 + $40 for actuator
injectors 224
chip 60
AFPR 85
340 pump 140

TOTAL $1,158

Whoa, thanks!

So I take it you think my idea is good?

Sorry for repost, admin wouldn't let me edit.

Where on that site are you looking to get those prices?

Im going to online catalog..

thanks for the help!

I still would like to know the difference between TE and PT

PT is probably a Precision Turbo.

Thank you for the help. I decided to start off with a 44c,009's,HPFP,AFPR,Duttweiler neck, and maybe a scanmaster.

Is there anything else you can recommend for about 300$ or less that will actually give me a gain in hp?

Thanks again, and sorry if I have been a pain.

You haven't been a pain. Glad to help you get your combo together. :)

You won't need the 3,000 stall converter with the TE-44; the stock tc will work. You could take the money from the 3,000 stall + the $300 you have left and purchase a Hooker exhaust and find a used 3" downpipe. If you still want to get the 3,000 stall, then you could get a TA-60 or TE-60 turbo that would work with that converter and the 009's.

The TE-61 was probably too large of a turbo for the 009 injectors, so going down in turbo size was a good idea.

YOU NEED TO GET A SCAN TOOL!. You will also need tires that hook.
