Check the fuel line hoses just in front of the gas tank. Could be a bad, or kinked one.

Mike B.

Well Ive tried two FP regulators and blew compressed air thru the return line. (I could here the air in the tank) I dont know what to do next?

Any ides, before I go spending money on parts and labor i dont need?

How much for new return lies etc?

I also can smell raw fuel under the hood, but dont see any leaks?

PLEASE HELP

May look into your charcoal cannister as an issue. There is a solenoid on top of it, if it were to go bad.. the cannister could go sour and smell like gas.

There is also a check valve on the vacuum line going to the cannister.

That is if all those items are still there ;)

How do I remove the charcoal canister and would that cause my wierd FP issue? I mean i dont know what else to do besides go replacing the fuel lines and drpping the tank? The car was running fine then all of a sudden this wierd FP problem:rolleyes:

a quick check for the vent being an issue is just unscrew the gas cap , if problem is still there then venting is not the issue
if venting is the issue theres a steel line on the frame near the steering box
that line goes to the cannister, make sure its not capped off
unhook the rubber hose from the cannister and see if you can blow into it (take cap off gas tank first), it wont blow freely since its like a really long straw but air should flow , if no flow disconnect vent above axle and try again , if it doesnt flow replace the vent line from front to rear , its not uncommon to find the first foot or so of that hose by the steering box filled with rust .

i really suspect the return line... its not uncommon to see the return line pinched closed by the motor rolling over and denting that line between the passenger header flange and the frame, take a look
the return line can be removed from the regulator and try blowing through it , if it doesnt disconnect the return line from the connection at the frame (below PS pump) and try again , if it doesnt blow then the return line from frame to engine is blocked , replace it
work your way back checking , there is a splice in the steel line above the axle with a rubber hose , you could have blockage there , and then theres the rubber lines that connect to the fuel hanger at the tank , maybe they got pinched between the tank and the trunk floor when the tank was installed

Well I blew compressed air thru the return line and ther seemed to be no blockage or issue?

Can a clogged Fuel filter cause the issues im having too? (Even though the compressed air i sent thru the return line didnt seem to be obstructed?)

Sounds like your gauage isn't working right. Cause if you see 70psi on your guage your car would be flooded with fuel and shut off. Start with a new FP guage. Check the filter in your alky line. Also have a look at your nozzles inside your intercooler pipe for any blockage. Then move onto your fuel pump and filter if the issue has not been solved yet.

I was just thinking the same thing. I just checked my plugs and they look good actually. Now if Ive made a few short trips and the guage has been reading 60-65 lbs (line on) I would think they would have been fouled out. If alchy has been spraying would that be the reason they are looking ok?

Filter in alchy line? Wheres is that located exactly?

Negitive. That would have nothing to do with your plug reading unless you took a full pass and shut the car off immediately after and checked the plugs. If your plugs saw 65lb FP at idle they would be blacker then black and your car would chug like a horse and have a black cloud coming out of your exhaust. Your filter for your alky line is on your feed line going to the nozzles. Its really close to the pump/battery. I just ran in the garage to snap a pic of mine to show ya.

Man thanks for the input. I pulled three plugs and they look good, maybe its the guage, which ill be checking tomorrow. But i still smell raw fuel under the hood? <aybe im just paranoid because i saw the FP sky rocket. Ill keep yah posted.

Caspers remote pressure gauge is great and you can tape it to the window if needed, he's also in IL so it would only take a day to ship to you.

Looks like it was a bad guage folks. At least its nothing major.

Thanks for all the input and help fellas! I really appreciate it!

Well look in the bright side. You have a well serviced return system now and everything is good with your engine.. Glad it worked out for you. Not to mention I learned where all the problem issues are with a return line..
