Ive seen it before but nothing came up in my search but what is required to put a girdle on my block? I just got it back from the machine shop and how do I tell if it was done? Thanks guys:cool:

Money!!!

J/K (sort of). Are you asking how to tell if the engine you just got back has a girdle? If so, call the machine shop. If you're just wondering what's involved then that would be a girdle, (obviously) and then at the machine shop you'd have to have the mains machined down and the girdle installed and a line bore, and any general labor measuring and making sure everything is correct.

The main caps have to be machined to a critical dimension on a mill or surface grinder. The girdle has specific and detailed instructions included with it. (RJC girdle, anyway) The block MUST be line HONED (not bored) after the girdle is torqued in place. (both main bolts/studs AND pan rail bolts MUST be torqued prior to line hone.) Just follow the included instructions carefully. I hand sanded the pan rail with a sanding block to get a .005" pull up/pre-load. It really didn't take that much time to get it "perfect". Probably about an hour of sanding, total.

Alright good yeah I ordered a RJC girdle so Ill just check out the instructions but thanks for the help and info

When you say you hand sanded the pan rail to get the .005 preload, was that on the girdle or the block? Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question.....
