What is the best oil filter avalible... whats the best one to use for an 1983 buick regal t-type? I was thinking of using a purolator oil filter which are pretty good but I dont think that they make one for a 1983 buick regal t-type, or even for 1980's cars. what oil filter do you reccomend, what do you use.

I use K&N Oil FIlters on everything I run. If memory serves me that is the same as the mobile 1 filter.

Just do not use a FRAM:eek:

filter

I've had really good luck with Bosch filters. If you run the turbosaver it is the 3500. If it is stock 3.8 gn it is a 3331

Used to be PF52 but I switched to a Wix 51036 simply because it's made better than the current Delco's (I cut them open)

I discovered the pf47 ac delco at walmart a couple weeks ago was made cheap as hell. Flat, plastic inner liner, no anti-drainback and when compared to the walmart el cheapo tec2000 or whatever it is called I found them to look exactly the same inside and out  Went to advaned and picked up a pf47 and it was made concave, with anti collapse metal liner, anti-drainback, etc. I won't buy critical auto stuff from walmart anymore. When there is room I use the PF52 or where there is not enough room I use the pf47. In a turbo motor I would change the oil/filter when it starts looking dirty or contaminated. I would rather run basic oil and filter changed more often than a fancy oil/filter every 10,000 miles ;)

K&N gold
Pure One
Mobil 1
Royal purple

Are all top of the line oil filters and cost like it too!

Oil filters haha. My buddy that worked at toyota never changed his filter in his car, just changed the oil. I've done this a few times myself (Never on the buick):biggrin:.

Mobil one for me also ... reasonable price ... I wish I could say I have cut multiple filters open and compared , that would really be the only way to see build quality.

I am NOT surprised by Wal Marts NAME BRAND filters being built differently than other companies ( SAME PRODUCT NUMBER ) ... they get a LOT of their stuff custom built for them (leaving out some options that MOST consumers wouldnt notice) , just to sell it for a cheaper price.

WAL MART IS CROOKED ---

Wix- 1036
Mobil 1
K & N
Purolater Pure One

Carquest and Napa Premiums are made by Wix, (just a note)

So our local o-reiliy's had a display (sponsored by wix) showing several name brand oil filters cut open. Since it was vendor sponsored I did my own little independent verffication when I got home.

The wix has

1: A real coil spring bypass valve (others have a stamped steel spring)
2: A nitrile ADB
3: A significantly more rigid filter media.

And seeing as how they're no more than a Delco filter and a little less than Mobile 1 or K&N (actually a champion performance core filter)

Isn't the Napa (gold) filter #1036 the same as a Wix filter? I thought it was, not sure tho?

Yes.

There are really only 4 filter designs on the market.

Wix
Champion E-core (delco among others)
Champion Performance Core (K&N and Mobile1)
Fram (if you're using this hand over the Keys to your GN)

Toyota oil filter are sweet. They used to have a proprietary design. When I had my Yoyo that was the only filter I would run on it. They came factory sealed with a real o-ring that had its own lub on it already. But that was 10 years ago so they may of changed them by now.

I've been running a System One or a Motorcraft. It is supposed to be the same as a Pure One at half the cost.

Baldwin, K & N, Mobil1, & Wix, are all considered on the top of the oil filter food chain by most peeps. Sorry, if Purolator filters were anything exceptional, we would all be running one, and AC-Delco line of filters do not hold the prestige they once did, enough said there. I run AC-Delco, have for years, never had any problems, but will be switching over to one of the more respected oil filters soon when my AC-Delco's are gone. Just my $.02 worth, but there are at least a dozen or so really good threads on this forum under some of the more appropriate sections above.

The Purolator "Pure One" oil filters are good but the cheaper line of Purolator filters aren't so good. Also Motorcraft makes a good filter  I wouldn't hesitate to run one on my GN.
