Toyota oil filter are sweet. They used to have a proprietary design. When I had my Yoyo that was the only filter I would run on it. They came factory sealed with a real o-ring that had its own lub on it already. But that was 10 years ago so they may of changed them by now.

I've been running a System One or a Motorcraft. It is supposed to be the same as a Pure One at half the cost.

Nope, havent changed. Still has the lubed oring out of the box.

Every service I do at Toyota gets the genuine Toyota filter no matter what. Almost every one has the plastic seal with the lube on the oring. Only ones so far that don't have it are the G1's that go on the 3.4 liter 6's. Not sure why but all the rest have it.

I worked with a guy that his dad bought tires from Sam's Club and they were Michelin's and they wound up coming apart and destroying the fenders on his dually. He called Michelin and they pretty much told him "Sorry" that they make them to Sam's Club specs and he would have to sue them. He did. They paid for new fenders labor and paint to make his truck right and he bought tires from Martin Tire after that. No more Sam's/WM auto items for him.

Mobil one for me also ... reasonable price ... I wish I could say I have cut multiple filters open and compared , that would really be the only way to see build quality.

I am NOT surprised by Wal Marts NAME BRAND filters being built differently than other companies ( SAME PRODUCT NUMBER ) ... they get a LOT of their stuff custom built for them (leaving out some options that MOST consumers wouldnt notice) , just to sell it for a cheaper price.

WAL MART IS CROOKED ---

They did a little segment on Hot Rod tv this morning about Royal Purple oil filters and how they're made. I was impressed.
100% synthetic media was tested to capture 99.9% of particles, and the
thicker shell withstood 500 psi pressure.

They claimed they are the "best of the best" filters available.

I very much doubt that Walmarts name brand filters are built to different specifications than their name brand counterpart but still bearing the same brand & part#. No reputable company is going to build something to a different specification and / or quality level and leave the same brand name / quality rating / specification level / grade on it.
There was a very interesting thread on this forum and maybe some other car / auto forums that had what would be considered very objective evidence that quite a few auto products, AC-Delco oil filters being 1 of them, were being made, copied, or cloned off-shore illegally. The pictures show exactly what to look for internally, externally, appearance wise, and the dimensional differences. This was maybe 3 years ago. I am sure that a lot of those AC-Delco oil filters end up in places that you would not suspect, and probably some of the merchants buyers were/ are not aware either.
HTH
I personally think that Wally World has a pretty high ethical code in regards to how they market, price, & sell their products. Now working for them, that might be a different story.

Been running these for years, course I am predudiced because I sell them.

Billet Oil Filters Can be used standalone or as part of the Turbo Protector setup I sell. $$$$$ but a nice piece.

This is a pic of one on my GN from a couple years back.

What is the best oil filter avalible...............

This is a wide open question, and having done lots of research on this subject lately, the only filter that comes close to "best", is the one Mark shows above.

However I do not agree with him that it is pricey, it can actually save lots of $$$ in the long run.

Not only will it do a better job of protecting your expensive performance engine, it should save $$$ over buying the POS paper filters.

Personally, in a high performance application, we use, and prefer a re-suable and cleanable stainless mesh filter.

We have experienced many problems with the paper, cardboard or whatever junk used in the throw-away canisters. They have blow out cases and/or sealing ring, collapsed and just stop flowing with so much residue. The micron ratings of these "cans" range from 8-400 microns, but they can claim an "average" number? A mesh filter is absolute and cannot "track" or vary because of weak spots in the filter media.

Also, like Mark's, NO bypass is needed as they will ALWAYS flow 4-8 times more than the media filters.

Another issue with media, if it is wet from water, like condensing in the oil pan, it will not pass oil so the bypass will be open until it drys out. :frown:

In my race car, I have a unit twice the cost of Mark's, but I figure in about a year and a half, it will be paid for, and will not need to purchase filters any longer, so it will be paying me back! :D

Another advantage in a performance or race car is since the filter is taken apart for cleaning, no more messy job of cutting open the filter to check for potential issues.

I may not always like you or agree with you Nick but this time I agree 1000%. You get what you pay for and something like an Oberg is cheap in the long run. It allows you to see what's in the mesh so you can keep an eye out for problems.

I run Baldwin B9 filters. I'm not sure if it's the best, but it's what i use along with an RJC biggie adapter.

Thanks! Like Dragnet, I try to deal with facts, not fiction. :)

I do not expect everyone to agree with me, or like me, just sharing my experiences.

As far as getting what you pay for, how can a filter that costs a couple dollars to make, compare with a quality piece costing over 100 times that?

In my opinion, simple answer is that it cannot. ;)

how are the system 1 filters? they seem very well built. as for paper filters, i like wix and baldwin.
