Whats the deal with the pm's?

Was wondering what the problem was and why we no longer have them,
We4 posted "Im tired of dealing with them"
"there will be no Private messages anymore"

I lost some info that i was saving in my pms and now its gone.
Could someone please explain why there will be no more pms?

Well, my wife suffers from that every month or should I say I have to suffer thru it. Don't know what the story is but I usually would rather have someone email me directly. Sucks that you lost info though.

Jesse said that if you had less than 15 you were OK... So, I left mine in there thinking they were safe. Now, I have lost information too.

On the other board some people have something like 500 PMs stored It must take up valuable space and cost tons of money. I'd rather have the Nextel and Political forums personally

Guys

We had to temporally disable them, Jesse had a sticky at the top for members to delete PM'S not used. It fell on deaf ears, with the amount of registered members we have, it is taking up a ton of space and it cost money the more Band-With we use.

We will resolve this and come up with a game plan. Thank you for the cooperation.

I thought the sticky said that you guys would delete anything past a certain amount of days? I was ok with that.THis sucks,
This is supposed to be the Premier Turbo Buick site on the web
Yet all the smaller sites have way more capabilty and no PM problems,I would think after all the donations that were made last year and the amount that vendors pay we could have the latest and greatest at all times.
Maybe its time for a new owner that has more time on his hands to deal with a web board,Bruce has a big tranny business and how he finds time to deal with this website is beyond me.

I thought that it said it would delete automaticly, not that you had to do it yourself. Perhaps I'm confused, it wouldn't be unusual. It's not that it happened, it's that there wasn't any notice that it did, and could seriously interfere with people's affairs. Even though my affairs are resolved, may I suggest re-activation for one week so that people who don't have each other's private email addresses can get them and resolve their business as needed?
Irregardless I among many, many others are thankful that we have this great service without cost. Do what you've gotta, but it'd be nice to keep people in the loop to minimise the disruption it may cause.

Otto we have not taken any donations this year at all FYI. We got flooded with e-mails and PM'S after the first delete took place because SOME MEMBERS claim they did not see the sticky. We started with members with the most PM'S stored and all we had was a list of crying members.

As far as what the vendors pay, that is really none of your business or what it cost to run this site. Although there are many updates available, the main reason we have been waiting is VBulletin will soon be releasing their latest and greatest version.

As far as a new owner, you can leave if you do not like it here. I already posted this is TEMPORARY for now, I guess you did not read my post either.

OK... it's temporary for now. Does that mean that when, and if, it comes back online - that we will get our old messages and info back?

If not, I would say leave them off for good. I mean, if you are pressed for the space and $$ now, it will just get to that same point again in the future. So, eliminate the problem before it starts and people loose info again and yadda yadda...

Nothing is lost, all you PM'S that you had in your inbox and out box is saved. If the feature was turned back on, you would see all your PM'S that you had prior to this feature being disabled. We will have this resolved shortly

And i really dont give 2 sh!ts about how much money is made,But hell put a little back into what brings in the money to keep it rolling,( I guess well see when the new software is released)We all like coming here or we wouldnt bother.Dont get all crappy. ANd i realize you (as if you own it) havent taken any donations lately,It like the freakin goverment and SS.Im sure know one is in this for a profit.

We are normally just paying the bills to keep us going. We all are in agreement to put back and even some of us out of our own pocket's to keep us the premier Buick site on the net. I think we all do a decent job keeping this place clean,respectable and a great place for resources. Remember we do not get paid for the time spent and the aggravation we deal with. I think we do a good job giving back especially when we all have full time jobs, kids and house-holds to run. It is the love for these cars that keeps all of us motivated.

Don't worry Otto when I get the donate section up and running.. I will send you a e-mail, I am sure you will be the first to send us a nice big fat pay-pal.
