I have been cutting low 1.5's leaving with 7psi, but as soon as I try to leave with 8 or 9 the car wheel hops in the wheelie. Is this typically caused by an incorrect pinion angle or by bad shocks? I dont know what the pinion angle is at right now, but plan to set it this week.

Thanks in advance.

pinion angle has nothing to do with wheel hop....shocks may....are your control arms boxed?

I'm thinking you either need to replace the bushings in the control arms or need some better shocks.

Control arms are brand new UMI lowers and adjustable uppers. Shocks are some old KYB's. I also added an ATR sway bar.

Before I had a stock sway bar, same shocks, and stock control arms. The control arm bushings were shot and the car was not wheel hopping at all. It dead hooked but twisted up real bad. Thats why I put the ATR bar on and UMI control arms.

I set the uppers to the same lenght as stock by mocking them up. The reason I was thinking that pinion angle was the issue is because the bushings were so shot I figured the angle would be different now.

I have never seen a car with decent control arms & shocks wheel hop......you sure everything is tight?

the thing that "could" really mess up your pinion angle is the adjustable uppers....maybe you need to check it (set it at -3* for a street/strip car)

Ill set the angle and post back.

PS- forgot to mention this is with MT Drag Radials.

I had horrible wheel hop with my pinion angle at 3*...Adj uppers, Metco lowers w/ instant center brackets, ATR bar, and 50/50 shocks. Prior to BG this year I bumped my pinion angle to 3.5*...Went a best of 1.55 short time on Nitto 275/60's. Prior to the pinion adjustment best short time was a 1.68 in Norwalk 04'. If your shocks are dampening ok, try putting a little more pinion angle in it. Just watch for vibration as you go through the traps..HTH Scott
