When is it no longer a street car?

Just curious about where or when most people would "draw the line" so to say?

Creature comforts? Gas milage? Driveability?

Example.
I have a friend with an 87 Monte SS with a Bill Mitchell SB 427, 13.5 to 1, aggressive solid roller, 4.10's 4000+k converter,.. ect, you get the idea,
no a/c or heat, fiberglass trunk and hood. Full interior. More or less.
He tells me it's 100% streetable.

Car runs low 10.30's-hi 10.20's on motor.

I would say it's VERY borderline at best being on a steady diet of 110 fuel and Maybe 5-6 mpg at 50 mph.

I drive my WE4 on the street once in a blue moon but that doesn't make it a street car.

IMO just because you CAN drive it on the street doesn't make it a street car.

Getting back on topic I agree with you 100% on the street car issue..... There's a guy (assclown is a better term for him) down here with a 8 second Mustang that will argue with you until you're blue in the face that his car is a street car.... Keep in mind it is gutted with a 12-point cage, has a 2-speed PG, and a solid roller 347ci (last I heard, but it might be bigger now) motor w/ a lot of spray.... The best part is this dumbass trailers it out to a parking lot and then drives it off the trailer and tells you he can drive it anywhere

I think it's called Denial!!! In all honesty the assclown down here with the Mustang seems to think that he's fooling somebody, but it's so blatantly obvious that's he's just full of BS! Kinda like when he and his buddy were telling everybody it had a stock 302ci motor

Perspective

It is all in your perspective. My car is a street car I don't drive as much as I would like to but it absolutely a street car. I have a company vehicle so I don't have to daily drive it.. I drive it a 100 plus miles a night when I take it out on the weekend. Yes I run old C-16 when I do and I play all night... Brick I am sure you don't doubt that Cal drives his car on the street frequently do you.. You know he does, and I hope you don't consider him an assclown. Oh by the way my car is all stock too.....

Dave, it's funny you mention Cal cause he is part of the reason I call this guy with the Mustang an assclown!!! Basically this assclown with the Mustang was shooting his mouth off one night at the street races and made a comment that he had ANY V6 car (GN/TR) covered with his Mustang (he said they can turn the boost up to whatever they want it won't make a difference).... Needless to say we were going to line him up with Cal, but the assclown with the Mustang that said he had any V6 covered made a bunch of excuses and basically backed out of the race when we told him we had a V6 car for him to race.... Now if that isn't an assclown I don't know what is!!!!

And yes you're right Cal does drive his on the street frequently from what I heard but without A/C I'm sure he might get a little hot down here in Florida Hell I've seen Ricardo LaCosta drive his mid 8 second twin turbo StageII backhalf car on the street with the parachute and wheelie bars on, but I think Ricardo would agree that it's not exactly a street car

Just waiting for my new turbo to get here, But i drive my car a couple times a week to work (maybe 15 miles each way) and 2 or 3 nights a week out cruising, The turbo 400 trans is the only thing that is a bit less cruisable, but worth its weight in reliability. My car will run in the 9's this year, The new GTQ 76 should be here in the next 2 weeks or so and to the track i go.I will trailer it there though

If you can't run it on the street and buy gas anywhere along the trip, it ain't a street car. Running Race gas, on the street, and not paying the road tax on it I believe is illegal, due to federal law. So while you might beat the word game with emissions and collector car statis, if it ain't legal it ain't legal. If it ain't legal then it's not a street car.

The beleive part is that I just off hand don't have the federal reg to quote, and don't have time to track it down at the moment.

If you drive it to the track and back home and prepping it for the track doesn't take more than a half hour. Also, if it will pass inspection, it is a street car.

Roll cage = track car
Obscene weight reduction ( missing seats) = track car
Trailer needed to take to track = track car

If i must prove my point, I will drive my car to the track, Nearest 1 being 2 hours away.
I had a Camaro that ran 10.90s that was driven to and from the track cutting 1.4 60 foots, and id be glad to beat those number just for myself

If you have to go someplace fast and reliably and you aren't in your really fast car it ain't a street car.

Only two cars I own that run are Turbo Buicks.

If you have a beater, work car, truck, trailer, race gas, ricer, or wifes car you use often, you don't have a street car.

Also if there's any reason you want to drive another car someplace instead of your TR, excepting minor down time, it ain't a street car.

Umm, Cal lives in Florida. Dave and Cal know one another quite well. Since it takes two to argue, I'm willing to bet the Mustang guy would be alot more docile if he got some competition without alot of lip service about cars he's never seen. Why not school him personally and end it?

Umm, yeah I know Cal lives in Florida (Melbourne to be exact) and I have talked to the guy and seen him at several races down here in Florida...... So what's your point? The Mustang guy told us he had ANY V6 (GN/TR) covered and that we could bring him a car to race since he knew we had nothing for him (obviously I don't have an 8 second car or else I would've raced him myself) so we talked to Cal and he was interested in racing this assclown with the Mustang.... Cal had heard about this Mustang guy before and he thought the guy might back out because he is known for talking sh!t and then backing out when somebody brings him a car.... Bottom line is the Mustang guy is an assclown because he talks HUGE amounts of sh!t (like the comments he made about having every V6 covered), but then when it comes time to end the sh!t talking with a race for some $$$ he makes a bunch of excuses and bitches out!

Do you understand now why he's an assclown?? I'm sure Cal would agree with me about this Mustang guy and the crew he hangs with.......

What do you mean by "street car" is my question...

Street legal? Street driven? How far? Didn't Car Craft magazine have a race where you had to drive your car for 50 miles first?

I guess it is all about opinion. Like spark plugs and oil filters.

I guess you could argue for and against race gas, roll cage, a/c and fiberglass.

Hot Rod magazine had an issue out about six months ago with 60 "street" cars that run in the 10's (if my memory serves me correct).

I know people with no a/c in their daily driver cars that don't race them.

My being able to drive 3-4 hours to Bradenton with the A/C on, luggage in the trunk, kids in the back seat; not changing gas and tires and clicking off 11.99 at the track is definition of ultimate street car IMHO.
