Replaced a broken line, new orifice tube, and dryer. (system was working before. I can't get it to take freon and the line going into the evaporator where the orifice tube is freezes up. On the fender side of the orifice tube it is warm.
A friend of mine seemed to think it was the evaporator or expansion valve. I can blow air through the evaporator. Could it be the expansion valve, if so where is it?

I believe the orifice tube is the expansion valve.

The orifice tube is the expansion device in this (CCOT-Cycling Clutch Orifice Tube) system.

The line should be cold after the o-tube. Is the accumulator and line coming out of the evap cold?

What are your pressures?

You need to jump out the low pressure switch that comes off the accumulator and statically charge system-once you have have enough freon in the system you can unjump the low pressure switch and the clutch on the compressor will kick in and pull the freon in by itself-add freon according to gauges pressures.

I pulled a vacuum. After this happened the first time I replaced the orifice tube. I used one from a 95 ford pickup. A member said that is a better choice for the r-134. Not sure of pressures, my high side won't hook up, I need a new end on my guage. I was using the walmart low pressure hose right out of the can. I did jump the switch, so the compressor was running. I did pour some of the old oil from the old condensor into the new one. (Could that be a problem?) I did flush the line through the evaporator.
