Was changing starter and there are 2 8-10 gauge wires that come down back of firewall that appear to have been a fusible link. There's a lil black\round connector and it turns into a smaller wire that goes to solenoid. The smaller wire has rotted away, where can I get this? It looks like its gonna hafta be the something to reduce down to a smaller wire and how in the world is it possible to lay on your back and cut/splice wires and tape them up?

I'm completely stupid about electrical stuff so somebody tell me what size fusible link to ask for at napa or is it possible to just use an inline fuse? The red wires that they crimped together look like 8 or 10 gauge,by looking at the Caspers pic it looks like they split the 2 red and went to 1 one eyelet to starter

Battery supplies power to starter, then it is carried by those fusible links to the fuse panel. Those should be a direct replacement, otherwise you will buy 3 links and replace each wire, problem is getting 3 eyelets on the starter plus the nut and the wire from the battery. Don't recall the amps on them, but if you cut them out and take them in, Napa should be able to set you up.

The way I described it was misleading, it's the big eyelet to starter. It goes up and splits into 2 red wires

Its either Casper's kit or three links from Napa, at this age, you should replace them all while your under there. Just pull them up behind the valve cover and splice all three in and reconnect.

I tried to pull them up but couldn't get a good enough grip, the harness, the heater hoses and coil pack were in the way. Got aggravated and quit for the night. What size are those red wires 8 or 10 gauge?
