I've been looking at these two turbos one is a te44 and a te62. My car is basically stock I have upgraded the fuel pump and regulator. I have a street and strip chips .2 1/2 in exhaust and a cold air intake. So both of these turbos are about the same price. My goal is a low 11sec car.so what one do you think I should get both are in nice condition.

The 44 aint gonna cut it..... Low eleven second is gonna require more mods...... 62 will need a convertor.

Take your time and do some research on this alot of info on the site

You need to view the engine as a total package. You can't just slap parts together and expect it to work. Find a specific goal and build towards that.

If you want low 11s you're going to need a converter and a turbo. Get a turbo that will flow for low 11s (te44 will do that with supporting mods). The TE62 is a high 10 sec turbo if you tune it right (or faster). Find out what stall converter you are comfortable with and go from there. Some folks dont like 32-3600 stall converters, some want lock up units, some want non lock, etc etc...

Basically get your goal in mind as a whole and build it as such. Don't pick a turbo..then a downpipe...then the TC...then the chip..then blah blah blah...

fwiw I believe the TE44 has gone mid-low 11s, but most are afraid of boost (25psi+) so they'll never get there. Thats why you see people with 70mm turbos running 11.20s or 10.80s on a turbo that should be in the 9s.

You could do a billet 6262 .63 housing and a 3000 stall converter. I have two friends with stock long blocks and this turbo converter combo. At 18psi and pump gas they are FUN to drive! With boost in the mid 25-30psi range you should be able to run low 11s with the other simple supprting mods and a safe tune. A 44 or TE62 is what $300 bucks cheaper, spend the extra and you will be set a turbo great for a while.

you can run the 44 or 62 turbo to low 11's.i went 11.1 on a 49,and a friend of mine went 10.7 on a 44.

he didn't ask for a combo, his thread is which turbo.i pointed out that it can be done with both turbo's,ive never kept any secrets in regards to my combo's if he is interested i will explain.

Welp, guess thats all to it. OP, pick one of those and you're set!

X2 !!!! guys build 9 sec cars then run in the 12s cause they don't want to take a chance of hurting it :rolleyes: If ya do a search on "Melissa" in time slips her old mid 11 combo that she ran forever (mid 90s to early 2000's) with is in there somewhere. 11.4s @ 118 from what I remember.. stock motor with simple junk done to it.

The real issue is the reason these 9 sec combos are running 12's is in the tune, which isn't safe. A 70mm turbo on a 11 sec car isn't making anymore power than a smaller turbo.

I have a friend going 11.35@117 with 26psi with a TE44 and another friend going 11.36@118 with a TE60@24psi. Both cars are full bolt on stock longblock. The TE44 car is floating the valves. Hopefully next spring we will have the problem addressed and both cars will be in the 10's with stock engines and small old school turbos. Funny how everybody has to have a new billet wheel, and now all you hear about is the new CEA turbine wheel.:p

Ya I have watched fast guys get their butt kicked with Melissa's old set up. It is fun to watch them squirm :p Oh and of course everyone NEEDS all the newest "Cool guy" parts !!

Combos would be helpful cause im new to these cars still but I've been reading alot. I plan on running ported big valve iron heads 206 cam 3in dp and a 2800 to3200 converter what u guys think.

1st rule- forget looking at all the mods people have in their signatures.

no one gives a ****ing **** if you have a 3" cone filter with 8mm plug wires and a damn knock sensor...half this site is hell-bent on letting everyone know every tiny piece that is on their car.

Look at guys like Bison, Otto, Cal Hartline, etc. They will be honest with you and tell you what you need. at least 60% of the people on this site have cars that should be running at least a second faster than what they post, but its because they want to look cool and say they have a 70mm turbo and run 11.5s...something you could do with a 60mm turbo..

I'd be considering a 3200 converter.... 60# injectors.....3" DP....TurboTweak SD Alky chip....Razor's Alky kit, and a powerlogger with wideband. I'd also probably opt for the smallest turbo that would get it done on pump gas and alky...... The old school TE44 is hard to beat. You could go bigger.... and get it done with a little less boost.... but spoolup would get slower. Carefully tuned....I believe this would get you low 11's if you can get a good 60' time....on mid 20's boost. It would be a blast on the street.

another thing to consider is keeping the car at 11 5. I got the boot off 3 tracks in the northeast for running in the tens, my car does not have a cage in it.i can say that tracks have very little tolerance when you go below 11.49 barless.track considers the car a race car regardless of the appearence or streetability or fuel used.

Thanks for all the tips guys. My buddy has a mustang that runs 11.40 so I want to show him what the buicks are all about Haha.

Dont forget to have that tranny gone over before those 11 sec runs.Look up janis transmissions, hes about 15 min from cuy falls and works wonders with these trannys.
