Just curious how many peep still have their Tb as a daily driver. I am selling my fiances GTP this weekend, and she is going to drive my lexus i just got.

So, i will be driving the GN daily until i trade it for a car for her, or just find a nice car i want to buy her.

My question is what if any, have you guys done to make it a reliable DD. I have driven the car daily for a few week periods with no problems, i just want to know what the "must replace" items are, or what most people have seen issues with.

I know with the stock starter in the cold, it does not like to crank very fast:tongue:

just looking for some tips incase i gotta drive it all winter.

TIA

Cody

I think the real question here is why are you getting rid of the TB?

only getting rid of it if i find a good trade  if i drive it through the winter then i will be keeping it and buying her another vehicle.

just dont really feel like adding another payment to the bills right now, thats the only reason ide trade the TB:frown:

Wife has had a DD since 1987  Melissa's we drive till it snows.. just remember it's a used car ... get a good battery for the cold day's ...if your goin to drive in the snow get 4 good snow tires... they are a blast to drive then

i feel ya on the snow tires. i already went and priced some out, and felt like a jackass asking for winter tires for a GN.

i dont really want to drive it through the winter or daily at all since it only has 56k on it, but itll be getting a new paint job next year if i keep it anyways so....

any other pointers?!?!

You'll need a new alarm clock....these things take forever to warm up!!!!! Nothing makes you pissier in the morning than being able to see your breath INSIDE the car the whole drive to work. Oh yeah, and none.....not one damn cupholder! WTF!!!!

guess ya never used a remote car starter  :p

You do realize that if you try to trade it in, they'll offer you about $1,000 for it, right?

i have been driven my TB sice december of last year, and its been a year already!!, just keep a watchful eyes in these cars, and it should be alright i guess.!

hey come on !!! it's an 87 Regal   I have bought "dealer GN trades" as you said usually they aren't goin to give anything for it

I drive it everyday... rain, shine... (no snow though!)

oh sure....remote start.....that's what my car needs, more electronics!!!!

I mine never start on a consistent enough basis to warrant remote start

what I meant was, mine doesn't start half the time...between all the stero stuff, gauges, scanmaster, radar detector, and a small ground problem....remote start wouldn't benefit me! Mine gets jumped monthly....

How far you have to drive everyday?
I drove may a rear wheel drive in bad weather
Get 4 steel rims from the salvage yard, put studded snows on the back and go.
Wife drives Camaro SS 6 spd GoodyearF1 tires, she's been caught in the snow always made it home (Soft Foot).:)

i worked for lexus for 2 years and we called the is300 the international skate 300 because it dont move in the snow with those low profile tires on it, and it wouldnt turn either. the same with the sc430. i would keep the tr for the summer and get a regal as a winter beater. anyways lexus is a rattlebox on wheels and you pay 25-70,000 for it i always pulled dashes and interiors and the engine guy always doing engines that sludge. not a good car company

Not too many problems with driving one everyday, I guess having a lean cruise option in the chip would help

My daily driver is my silver 87 turbo regal limited, been driving it everyday 20 -25 miles one way for 2 years solid. It used to be my racecar

I wont drive it in the snow and ice.

I almost wrecked in the rain, twice... So i purchased new tires for it all the way around.

Just make sure you keep an eye on the fluids, good brakes and tires.

Ive had 2 small coolant leaks, i had to pop the radiator cap loose and drive home like that. System doesnt build pressure and force the coolant out.
But still keeps the cars cooling system working.

I did have a tranny leak, the speedo cable ring came loose and made a mess.

Just turned 100K on it here a few weeks ago.

Maybe im out of line here, but why are you supplying your fiancee with a car? Why are you selling her GTP? Are you keeping the $ from the sale of the GTP? This is a big move if you ask me and can only hurt you in the end. Why dont you co-sign on a loan for a used car for her. This way she is at least earning it a little. Any trade that you lose a TR in is a bad move unless its totally shot especially if it makes you happy. The TR's price isnt going anywhere but up, even if its driven daily and has high miles. Anything else will be a loss in the end. I would help my gf of nearly 10 years (i dont ever plan on getting married) with anyhing if she asked, but it would be a trade off. I dont just give anyone anything anymore. The favors rarely get returned. As far as the slow cranking, Check your battery and connections. My cranked over good a few days ago and it was 20 degrees.

You need a DARNED GOOD ALARM SYSTEM, plus a hidden kill switch, and a steering column lock wouldn't hurt either. :D

Seriously though, I drove my old T as daily driver one time from 190,000 miles to 213,000 miles on a stock unrebuilt engine. The only problem I ever had was my alternator died. My only suggestion is to go every vacuum line you have, tighten all your valve cover bolts, and check your fluids.
