I could, but why. I don't need to be adding all that mileage to it when I have a perfectly good beater to drive when its cold or wet out.

I drove mine everyday. Even in the snow. Right now it is in the garage with the engine pulled....doing some work. If it wasn't in the garage I would still be driving it.

It will be a trade off if i get rid of the gn to get her a car;)

i wouldnt be trading the car in at a dealer, i dont like getting forcefully raped:eek:

With the low milage it has i really dont want to DD the car, but i just built a new house and bought the lexus, so i figured instead of rushing to buy another car, ide jut lay back and drive the GN for awhile. Prolly only put like 4k on it over the winter, then give it some new paint.

I just wanted to see if there are any real common issues that i should expect to stumble upon, so i can get them ironed out now.

thanx for all the help thus far, keep em comin

Cause they are a blast to drive everyday. I once left an unsuspecting 95 vette from a 70 mph roll.... letting him have the break.... and drove around him before we got to 90 mph.... I let out at about 110.... after I put about 6-8 links on him..... try that in a beater.....

Dont daily drive a gn man.. thats crazy. not worth it. plus, your raising the chances of it getting stolen by 10 fold. I'm tellin you, youre going to get it stolen, or someones going to be dialing on a phone, and skid on the ice right into your ride. Screw that. I'ts not worth it. These cars are dwindling by the hour. Look at bweavys posts. "got ten more in today, parting them out guys" Before you know it, theres going to be about 7000 of these cars left. and youre going to be kicking yourself. I dont know of a person yet, that hasnt regretted selling their classic cars... Not a one...
EEEVVVERY one of those old guys, still kick themselves today.... lol.
Besides, why lose a TR? Theyre too cool. Get a buick GS, and drive that, while she drives the lexus. keep the tr in the garage. Youll be happy you did, when summer comes, and all the rest of the pogues are driving their 'non descript, good on gas mileage, white soccer ball sticker havin, "cuz I didnt think I'd get pregnant" cars.
Just my opinion.

DRIVE THE CAR... WTF... A CAR IS SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVEN NOT STORED IN SOME BUBBLE WAITING FOR YOU TO MAKE THE "BIG BUX" ON IT 10 YEARS BEFORE YOU DIE.

I never understand this... People that want pretty cars to look at should get some 1/64 scale models and put em above this computer monitor they are looking at right now. It's not like these are the most pristine luxury vehicles anyways...they are cheap and fast - abuse that fact!

Cars are no fun unless they're driven (what a concept?!). If your worried about it getting stolen, then install a NICE alarm, not the 200$ junk... a nice tracker that maybe calls you for whatever you want... there are tons of options (documenting them here is not a good idea). As far as accidents... drive very defensively (you should anyways!) and only stomp on it when you are certain of the conditions. Snow and Ice is another story... If the car is sloppy in these conditions, don't bother but this would apply to pretty much ANY posi car.

Yes, cars are supposed to be driven true, but ya just dont 'drive' rare and collectible cars. Why is there classic/collectible car insurance then? Cuz there really are cars that are rare, and pretty much shouldnt be driven every day. These arent cutlass sierras or ford taurus's man. And how does defensive driving help you avoid the person thats skidding into you cuz he's a moron. Oh yea, the salt works wonders on your frame too.... Screw that. Go ahead and rot your guy's cars out. I worked hard for mine, I'm not screwin mine up. I only have one, and it's stayin in one piece :)

only problem...

as a daily driver, I had was the alternator and the fuseable links going out at the wrong times. No problems driving in snow, if you don't mind the slipping and sliding as I did it on purpose. Just remember to put the trany in neutral before "braking", it will allow you to stear and maintain control of the vehicle better. (the front brakes have a tendency to lock-up while the rear tires are being pushed by the drive train, causing a loss of steering. at which time it's best to release the brake and if possible drive around the potential collision! )
as you may know, the fuseable links are located at the starter post, which makes for "crawling under the vehicle" for repairs or option "B", call the wrecker. I relocated mine to the bat/post for easy replacement, should they clear at the most inopportune time! If you pre fab the links up and keep them in the glove box for such emergencies (I use the automotive type stake-ons) then it is just a matter of swapping them out at the first sign of a problem. when yu get home you can take the time to sort out the one that failed in the warm of yur garage!

Whats wrong with driving the car and keeping it in good condition? You buy a GN for say $18k with low miles. Daily drive it and race it for 5 years. Say you drive 10k miles a year. So 20k miles+50k miles=70k fun miles. There is no reason the interior cant still be mint. Use a dash cover and tint the windows. Then you have a car you can sell for $12k or keep it and have it as a fun car. Name a car that you can drive 50k miles and only lose MAX 8k and run in the 12's.

I'm 19 and DD a limited. Love it to death and runs great. I don't drive far as my work is 1/2 mile away from me and school is less than 5 but so far it's been a real runner. I make it a priority to keep it in view when at all possible to avoid theft. Also Having a kill switch or 2 or 3 is a must as well as a collar guard. Good Luck,

Brian

To each their own; but just to be clear we aren't talking about an Enzo here (but if you had that much $, you aren't worried about daily driving a single car b/c you probably have an entire arsenal of vehicles that are a blast to drive). I prefer to have fun "doing" instead of just "looking." Cars are not paintings. Run it till it dies or you kill it... then fix it and start all over.

Just remember they steal Toyota Camry's and Honda Accords too. :p

Theft deterrants 2-3, cup holder, and 4 thats's four Blizzak snow tires work just fine. :)

Tinted windows is also a good idea, legal 30-35% works just fine.

Upgrade the stereo and replace the drivers seat, at the very least a thick sheepskin cover for the crappy stock foam seats is in order.

Takes a good ten minutes to defrost and get some heat with a 160 stat. so plan accordingly in the snow on the way to work or whereever.

A good long heavy aluminum ice scraper makes the job easier and a good legal weapon. ;)

If you have one with rust and not much paint nobody even looks at it until you go by them.

Avoid women drivers at all costs however.

If nobody drove them and nobody wrecked them then guess what? They wouldn't be getting rarer and prices wouldn't be going up. :D

Rarity in itself doesn't make a car valuable. Take an old, standard Lambo Countach, if there is such a thing. It was super rare, super expensive, and a no longer produced car, but next year, unlike our cars, it will more than likely not bring more money than it does this year, regardless of low mileage or not. If I had one I would drive it but there are those that think a car is a status symbol and would never move it further than the drive way. Those people are why we have collector car insurance that usually limit how much you can drive your car. And you are right. These aren't Tauruses (Tauri?). They are Buick Regals. Speaking of Taurus, look at the SHO. It was a limited production, high performance, premium sedan. In many ways it was Ford's equivilent to the turbo Regal (although it was aimed at BMW type purchasers) and a much better match performance wise than the T-birds. I had one and I loved it. It was the only one that ever really gave the T a run for my favorite driver. Trapped higher than my Buick too, although not quite as quick. They were excellent cars. The last year of the V-6 was '95. There were about 5,000 made with a msrp of 29,000 +. Now you can't hardly give one away much less make any money off of them.

I drive my Buick everyday. In fact with the exception of a few months here and there, it has been my dd since I bought it in Jan. of '88. I bought it then to drive, and I have. I have had other cars but I always find myself coming back to my T. I've put over 215,000 miles on it and it has only left me stranded 3 times. Once at 175,000 when the timing chain broke, once after that when the cam sensor was loose and backed out, and once when the maf went out. There have been other minor mechanicals but it has always brought me home. I rebuilt the engine at 187,000 and never did more than a chip and filter to it until after then. I recently ran my best time ever and there is more to come. I worked hard for mine and I have worked hard on mine but while some people are sitting around waiting to make a home run off of the perfect pitch that may never come, some of us are driving ours and having a ball playing the game like it was meant to be played.

If your car is a trophy. Put it in a trophy case. If your car is something you want to drive then by all means drive the wheels off of it. After all it's just a car, right? It is just a Buick Regal and if you want to argue that it's not you would probably argue that an SRT4 is not a Neon either.
