I was driving for ??long with a plug wire undone.

I eventually had a backfire/misfire under boost, so I parked it.

Coil pack Ohms out O.K.

Changed plugs.....now car still sounds like it's running on 3cylinders??

I have fuel pressure.

Car is hard to start.

Have FAST....nothing jumps out as being wrong.

Could I have damaged the ignition by running with no plug wire attached?

I think I forgot to attach the plug wire working with Brian Cotton changing plugs at Buick's vs/ Mustangs in Nov!! I may have stuffed it beside the plug??

Does a mis-fire, or running with one plug wire off, mess up our ignition module?

Anyway to test ignition??

I did a search, but too much stuff came up.

I took it off.....looked fine, nothing melted.

All three coils measured almost exactly 11K Ohms. I measured them all both ways. Re-installed, along with new 104 street plugs, Fuel pressure checks OK. Volts check OK on log.

I do have another coil pack....I'll give it a try

Old plugs were Black.

I cannot rev car in neutral past 3000RPM without major backfire. Car will not drive. Yes, I believe I have the right plug wires going to the right plugs, I triple checked.

Maybe I should try to unplug cam sensor?? Crank sensor feels snug, balancer is not wobbly.

Car is very hard to start.

At this point, the only other way to test your ignition module would be with one of Caspers Coil Pack Ignition Module Testers.

I've had mine since they first came out and I've used it on numerous occasions. Works great and is simple to use.
Might want to take your cam sensor cap off and inspect the magnet on the cap just for giggles.

Try disconnecting the orange lead by the battery for a few minutes to clear the computer memory.

Thanks for the help.....but I'm running a FAST system, no MAF, no learning.

Maybe when you had the first big backfire it damaged your map sensor, or the line came off it. You said you were using a speed density setup with you Fast. ie (no mass air meter)

Highlighted cell jumps around as normal. Seems MAP is OK. I will look into the Cam sensor, or the ignition module. Seems to be the next two items moving down the list.

(Good idea though! Keep'em coming.)

I would agree, but I have had the firing order memorized for years and years.

I guess I was refering to the coil pack's terminals 426 (hemi) on the front row, 351 (ford)on the back row, going counter-clockwise

I guess if you go clock-wise, you get the same thing, but in reverse. Either way, I have the right wires on the right posts. It's idiot proof, almost, with the cylinder numbers stamped onto the coil pack.

Thaks for the help, I guess I know what I need to do. Check the cam sensor, ignition, electrical, etc. The engine sounded fine, oil, coolant look fine, no loss of fluids, no excess blow-by. Kinda reminds me of when you loose an 02 sensor, but I don't have a narrow-band anymore. It's a fairly new FAST system.

The question begets how could you not see the cyl issue on the logs?

Any fluid loss?

Sounds like a gasket.

But the crank sensor will cause all those issues.

The C3I will cause backfires at boost under load, but i can not say I have seen it without load.

Did you change the program during any time through all of this?

Later AJ ;-O

Just got back from NAPA......

They sold me a chitty ign. mod.!

AND yes, mine was failing the test at med-high RPMs.

So, I gave them back the POS they sold me, and they gave me another new one to try, but I forgot to get him to test that unit before I left the store.

Damn, store was 30miles away.

I hope this works.

(I mean't to edit, not quote)

So far, I found one part that failed. I have look at most everything else under the hood.

I have two different coil packs, that ohm out good.

Out to the car....

It starts and idles fine, like a kitten.

I just tried another ign. mod.

Both new ign. mod. will not do anything!! I keep double checking the application at NAPA, WEIRD!

My OEM ignition will start the car , btu nothing over 2200RPM.

Do I have the wrong ign. mod.?? Can I just swap some wires to see??

I give up.

Original ign modual starts the car and idles fine, but breaks up over 2000RPM, and that's exactly what it tested as at NAPA. It failed the higher RPMs.

I have now tried two new ign. mod. from NAPA, that tested good, but my car won't even start with them. I tried and tried, went back to OEM, then tried a new one again.

I can put back on my original, and car fires right up!

I have re-tested BOTH of my coil packs I have here, and they are both between 11k-13kOhms.

Car ran fine, changed nothing, then miss/stumble, I see sparkplug wire undone, change plugs, and now breaking up is getting lower and lower in the rpm range, finally parked car....
