i just installed my boost gauge and put the stock wastegate back on b/c the adjustable one it had was not adjustable was was adjusted to boost too high...it was seized...anyway...with the stock one on it shouldnt ever go above 15 psi, correct? i dont know if this is true or not but that is what i thought and i saw it go to at least 20...i got off it right away...it also starts to ping around 15, that is why i would like to keep it within the stock limits until i figure out what is going on. I ordered a Walbro 340 and booster kit...i hope that this will help the fuel delivery...please help because I would like to get this thing running at its best. what could be wrong??

If the Orifice in the "Y" hose is too small, your car can overboost. The proper orifice is about .050". GM sent out some small ones a few years back.

If the diaphram in the wastegate or the wastegate hose has a leak, boost can also be too high.

Boost is also controlled by the chip (By cycling the wastegate solenoid) so switch chips to see if this lowers the boost.

Or the wastegate solenoid could be bad.

Or the wastegate could be sticking.

Or the wastegate hole in the turbine cover could be too small.

Or, or, or...

:D

how do i find out which one it is? i dont want to switch chips b/c the only other one i have is a stock one and that makes my car run rich and it doesnt really even boost with that one...

what y fitting are you talking about?

can i just change the wastegate solenoid or do i have to get another wastegate?

how would i know if the wastegate hole in the turbine cover is too small? where is the turbine cover? do you mean where it connects to the turbo?

how do i know if it is sticking?

Chips also can add boost. Thrashers in particular are known for a quick boost spike when you nail it. So don't discount that either.

what chip would u all suggest for less of a boost spike...but more like a stock chip for 36# injectors...i want it to be the same kind of ride as stock but with the injectors and chip matching...

Dave's right. I didn't even look at your sig to see the thrasher chip. Odds are about 99% that's your problem.

If you are getting knock with a thrasher chip, you must have some pretty bad gas. Plugging the open barb on the wastegate solenoid will keep your boost to 14 psi and below.

Ramchargers street chip or Eric Marshall at turbotweak should be able to get you a good street chip.

Make sure you tell them what you want to do and what is on the car for parts.

yeah i bet it is the chip...what is a chip i can get for it that wont cause this?

UNGN are you saying disconnect the line that connects to the side of the wastegate solenoid and plug it? if so do i plug it on both sides?

i bet it is bad gas too b/c we only get 91 out here and i bet it sucks...I put octane booster in...it helped...what gas do u guys recommend? any place in particular?

Thrasher 93 is about as street friendly as they come, other than the runaway boost in 1 and 2.

The Wastegate Solenoid is the little red electronic control on the passenger side valve cover. It has two hose barbs on one side and wires coming out the other side.

One of the hose barbs is connected to the "Y" hose that goes to the turbo and the Wastegate actuator.

The other barb is open to atmosphere. Plug the open barb with a rubber plug and your boost should go to about 13 psi. This should be fine with 91 octane gas.

Just don't race anybody (never race anybody on straight 91 octane gas anyway).

To run on a Thrasher Chip and 91 octane gas add 1 gallon of race gas to a tank of 91. This is way cheaper than octane booster and increases octane more than octane boost ever could. Loose the cat and you can run even cheaper/better leaded race gas.

i couldnt find the wastegate solenoid...or not all of it...i found the part where the wire plugs connect but not the barbs, which should be under it...i looked at my friends gn and he had what you are talking about. what i found out is that the guy that owned it before me hooked up a turbo timer to it at the line that would connect to the normal hook up which is missing. i want to get rid of the turbo timer and hook the solenoid up i think this is my problem...
