Dude.... that is some very, very rare stuff. We Turbo Buick guys may not want it but there are plenty of Monte Carlo, Malibu, and Grand Prix owners who would pay dearly for that stuff. Personally I think that stuff used to mate a T56 in a Monte Aerocoupe to a Corvette LT4 with a screw or Eaton blower would be awesome for open road applications or just highway screwing around.

Don't diss on the sticks, Turbos and Drag Racers may not like them, but on the road coarse and street, its hard to beat for smile factor.

I guess should not diss but-

I guess should not diss but I have enough trouble trying to drive and look at all the gauges as it is with out worrying about shifting gears. I agree maybe fun. I have drove other turbo cars with sticks and did not like:( . Sorry if offended anyone:eek:

I on the other hand i would love to do this. No more spool up problems because you dont have enough conv. Just push the clutch in and plant it. It would also be real different. Id try it with the street car. But the race car will stay auto. :D

Um.... you can't spool without a load on the engine, therefore you need the converter to get the turbo to spool. That and you quit making booste at the shift points is why turbos and sticks don't play well at the drags, however in roadracing you are generally out of power when shifting anyway so its not as big of a deal. I'd like a stick and turbo car.... but only for cruising or maybe land speed, not drag racing.

What? you can spool a turbo with an stick. Pro 5.0 is running in the 6's. you load the turbo. ( can you guess how?) granted these are "pro" cars. but i could do it with my SVO, totally different way than with a racecar but, just need to know how to position your feet

Ok, so who asked him if it would fit on the Grand National?? Look at the bottom on his Q & A section...

Pro cars use a stutter box that makes the engine load against a constantly varying rev limiter. How you spooled your SVO, I have no idea but with the engine freewheeling you shouldn't be able to build much boost since there is little resistance to the rotational interia of the engine. Please do share as I would like turbo and 6-speed a 425 Nailhead one day.

With FI just retard the timing or fatten the mixture for spool up. N2O works too but giggle gas isnt really my thing.

I think they just asked that because they knew it wouldn't. It looks like a Chevy bolt pattern, to me :) .

myclone is right, retard the timing fatten it up, causes raw fuel to burn in the turbo ( thats why you hear the banging and popping ) creating heat and combustion spooling the turbo

I used to have a Spectrum Turbo (I know but it was cheap:D) with a 5 speed. I used to be able to build boost on the line with it. You basically are slipping the clutch. The old three pedal trick. I think a T/R with a six speed would be alot of fun on the street. Besides you only need the clutch for first gear!!! :p

Manual T spooling

My whole life has been spent in car dealerships and finance companies. I have driven alot of different cars. I used to be a Nissan Z car nut. How can we forget those turbo cars?? I drove lots of disel cars with turbos, the old mustang turbos, REMEMBER the ole Grand AM turbo, lots of 5 sp turbo cars out there. I may not be a pro driver but I can hold my own (love 6speed vettes) but I will be danged if I have ever got these to cars to really SPOOL up with the clucth down!!!!!
BTW there is guy around here with an 80's 280zx turbo charged with a big SHOT on it that is tearing a**es up. He is deffinatley on my FISH KILL list!!

My GN has a 5 speed and a PT98 turbo, I can go from ZERO to 18psi of boost in .7 of a second with the clutch in, NO AUTOMATIC can do that!

It's not very rare anymore. When I had my ElCamino I ordered several catalogs and I was shocked to see all of those pieces are being reproduced now. Also, Popular Hot Rodding installed a 5 spd in an '85 GN YEARS ago. Not sure how it ran though. I would have to get the article out and read it again.

How would a GN run with a stick? I think it would be like a 4th gen Supra after s single turbo conversion. You would have lotsa MPH in the quarter mile, but bad ET's. Maybe if the GN had small twin turbos it would work out alright.

A stage II would work 1000X better than a stock motored car.

A supra will rev to atleast 6500 RPM, where a stock LC2 motor runs out of steam at 5K and will break the crank at 6K.

Even with small turbo's it would still only have about a 2K powerband.

For that reason, alone it would pretty much suck.

Couldn't really see it for a TR, but a different powerplant in a G-body it'd be an obvious choice, or a highway runner.

My favrite part of this is the intro the guy gives "Automatics are retarded. Theres nothing like doing a valve floating clutch dump to impress the ladies, or local law enforcment."
