will a stock shifter work on a 400 tranny

I did a search on 400 trannies and I got alot of the same swap info about the crossmember and driveshaft, but I did not get any real information on if I could use the stock center console shifter, I'm assuming this can be done fairly easy but I want to get all the info that I can so I can do it right the first time. Thanks

I used to use the stock shifter for a th350. I adjusted the tranny linkage so that "od" was drive, "d" was 2nd and "2" was first.

Yes it will work some bracket & lever modification at trans is ness. But not too difficult. Lou
