After storing my 22 year old Eagle GTs, I now have some drag radials and good traction. New problem - My th200 is slipping when going into 2nd at full throttle. The trans behaves properly at part throttle and going into other gears at WOT. Car is basically stock, and has 18,000 miles. I have a CK shift kit in the box, and I am wondering if it will cure this, or am I in for a total rebuild?

Possible causes from 2004R ASTG Manual.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The 2nd gear Band may be worn/burnt.
Low oil level.
Accumulator Valve sticking.
1-2 Accumulator Piston Seals leaking.
Servo seals damaged.
T.V/ThrottleValve binding.
T.V. Limit Valve binding.
Line Bias Valve binding.

Try it,if it still slips you need a rebuild and it will already be in there. It's a good kit either way.

That is quite a list of possible issues! Which of these could be addressed by the shift kit, or could at least be inspected/verified at the time of installing the kit?
I don't really want to spend an evening on my back installing the kit, and then still have to pull the trans for a rebuild. That is why I posed the original question.

Been there done that. The trans finds it hard to hold the band with the HP and new tires. If it does need a rebuild, the most important part is the builder. I had several shops due it and never lived. Got one who knows what he is doing in a 220r4 and it has been great for 5 years. The first ones only lasted months. So make sure you know your builder.

I would just pull it then. IMO the kit will help but the band is probably already burnt.
