Window Dew Sweep Replacement?

Looking at replacing some outer window dew sweeps. It looks like you have to remove the door glass to replace them. Is this so? If so, how do you do that?

you can roll the window down to do this.thats what we did on mine.one of the vendors sells a tool to get the dew wipe screws out.

2 of the screws in the middle of the door are completely covered up by the glass when it is completely rolled down.

there are a couple of pieces that push the glass toward the outside of the door. i bet if i remove those i will be able to pull the glass toward the inside of the car to gain access to the screws. do you recall doing this??

You can remove the window stop from the bottom of the door and roll the window down alittle more.

I ground down phillips head bit and put it on one of those cheesy little flat socket wrenches, works great. You need to take the upper panel off and adjust or remove the two brass looking window adjusters.

I did not remove the glass when I replaced my dew sweeps, I removed the upper panel, next I went to the outside of the car and sliced the old dew sweeps(they were badly cracked) down the length of the window and removed it. I did this so it would give me a little more room to push the window in a bit more. If I remember correctly, I removed the bottom window stop so the glass would drop down a bit more. I used an angled phillips head screwdriver to get those last 2 screw out

That's how you do it without removing the window. I think you have to remove the side to side stops as well and disconnect the motor to let if fall all the way down in the door.

I didn't have to touch the power window motor or disconnect it when I did my dew sweeps, everybody has different ways.

Just did the procedure. I removed the 2 stops from the top of the door and the stop at the bottom of the door. I also unbolted the channel that houses the wheel attached to the window unit and slid it back so I wouldn't scratch the glass. Ended up not being too bad, but I barely had enough room to get to the next to last screw on both sides. Couldn't use an angled screwdriver because I couldn't press on it hard enough to get the screw to budge so I held down on the glass as far as it would go while I used a regular screwdriver. Luckily got them to come out with that and a little PB blaster. I was a little worried that I was going to strip the top of the screw, but it all worked out ok. Thanks for the tips.

My (the easiest ) method:
1) Don't unbolt anything except 3 nuts attaching the glass to the lifting mechanism (1 in front and 2 in back). You will gain nice access to the nuts through holes in the door core by lifting/lowering the glass as needed.
2) Be careful and support the glass carefully throughout the unbolting operation!
3) Lower the glass carefully to the (inside) bottom of the door core
You will lower the glass enough to expose all screws of a sweep to unscrew them with a screwdriver.
