I do respect you and think of you as a friend but I completely disagree. I should have the right to have the windows tinted if I want. I was hoping you would post about this. So you think I am guilty of doing something wrong and have to prove I am not a threat. I think if you feel threatened then you need to take a different approach. If the back windows are tinted dark I would see it a the same threat as the front windows. I think the officer should use the loud speaker to advise the driver to roll down windows or do something else. Do you understand what I am saying?

However let me remind everyone of the simple fact that (and Ive written this numerous times before in regards to traffic related situations) driving is not anyones Right, but is a privledge given by the State. Heres the reason for the extra cautious "everyone is a potential threat" approach. I stop Joe Blow in his Dodge Omni for rolling a stop sign. As I approach I can see that he is a man of advanced age maybe in his 70s. I perceive him as a low threat and approach to ask him for his license at which point he shoots me to the face with a concealed 9mm semi-auto. Why did this happen U might ask, well in my twisted and sick scenario it was because Joe Blow just shot and killed his wife because he didn't get baked potatoes for dinner. He knew what he did, but I didn't. Extreme case U might say...Well tell that to the now 13 or 14 (I think) year old son of fallen Chicago Police Officer Donnie Marquez, shot and killed thru a closed door as they were attempting to serve papers on a senoir citizen (housing code violations) that Donnie and his Partner had numerous previous normal contact with. The point is that if we treat everyone like we are in Mayberry, then there will be a huge increase in Police funerals. Personally I don't ever want to go to another.

In the mid 90s i got over a $1,000 dollars in tint tickets. It was a nightmare, and i had the sticker on the glass from the State Patrol saying it was legal, the law does who they want, when they want, until someone go nuts on them. I gave the whole dam car away 1979 Buick Lesaber 2dr coupe.

That's my biggest problem with my tint - I can't see squat at night. In NJ you can't have any tint on the front (as in doors) windows but you can go as dark as you want on the rear. I've gotten so used to it that GNs without tint look 'weird' to me. They look so much better blacked out.
I've been nabbed numerous times in the GN, mostly for speeding, and not one cop mentioned the tint until just last year. I got pulled over specifically for the tint. The cop asked me 'what's with the tint' and I told him I thought it looked better that way. He asked how long I've had it and I told him 10 years (which is true). He said 'it's gotta go'. He got another call and left without giving me a ticket. I always put both windows down before I even stop the car so they can see me. I wouldn't want to walk up to a car that I couldn't see into either.
I see LOTS of cars, new and old, in NJ with dark tint and recent inspection stickers. Not sure how people are doing it.....

The "privelege" to drive is mine and I pay for it,the cops here have WAY darker tint than mine. The Sheriff's personal truck has limo tint all around. Here a truck/suv can have the rears blacked out but a car can't
Cops got shot before window tint........Mine are not blacked out. Now I live in a small town and I got my tint ticket at a checkpoint from an out of town State Boy, pissed him off when I insisted he go check the Benz in the other lane with all 4 windows down in dec and limo tint 1/2 down windshield
but he did it since the chief deputy walked up and started talking to me about my fast car:biggrin:

how long do the points stay on your license?
In NY it’s just an equipment violation and NO points unless you never pay the fine. After a few months of not paying it could become a suspended license but as soon as the fine is paid you get your license back.

Points are for moving violations only here in MO.
It's a $2-300 fine up here in Mass I think it looks good but couldn't be bothered. I don't want to be stopped and them have them go over the whole car busting my chops.. I did have some customers cars here that had tint.. some illegal.. looked cool but I didn't care for it driving the car ..especially at night .. bottom line if ya like it and want to "play the game" DO IT !! 
After a while with the fines and points you "might" smarten up ...wellll thats providing you still have a license... after having it suspended because of points

I don't have tint on my windows because I don't like having my vision limited at night but I don't understand why the police can have tinted (very dark tint) windows. My wife was pulled over for something mundane and the officer told her that her windows were tinted and they were too dark and gave her a warning. Here's the problem...the windows are not tinted that I can tell. They might be very mildly tinted but it's not aftermarket and hardly enough to notice. She has an 04 Audi A6 and the car sits just as it did from the factory. When she told me that I just brushed it off as that particular officer was a doofus but WTF!?!?! If window tint is illegal how come I see unmarked state patrol cars (actually I notice it more on the SUV's they have) with dark tint to conceal the lights? What's good for the goose...
When did MI start adding the points to your license? I got stopped for my tint back in '97 or so and it was just a fix it ticket. Ripped it off that night and went to the state police post. They took one look at the car, signed off on the ticket and down the road I went with no fine or points. I still see cars with limo tint on the side windows though, or even worse, there's an F-body around here with the mirror tint on the side windows. Have no idea how he gets away with that.

In Wisconsin, state trooper, saw me at Car wash, I went to local park to dry it off, went home saw a friend, went to another city 30 miles away, 4 hours later, came back home, cruised around the neighborhood, in small city, state tropper pulled me over for tinted windows, can you say stalking and patiently waiting, I was 23 years old back then with new grand national... don't drive with tinted, what if you had one drink or speeding, or accelerating quickly...
A Buick Grand National draws attention period, luckily GN's are not red for bullseye, I do agree a GN looks best with rear tinted windows.
One trip to the south and wrong turn into bad neighborhood off the highway, felt safe in a shady neighborhood with deep limo tint black windows... obviously the girlfriend was driving...
today you have to be careful so people don't cut you off and force rear end collision, thats another story...
The question why to squad cars need limo tint all around when they preach we can't, practice what you preach... now we can't use cellphones and talk yet the police do... me I have hands free and can't talk holding a phone any more, it makes me wonder if cell phones are like horse blinders for cell phone users?? another story, maybe with tinted windows we can't see bad drivers doing bad things or picking their nose...

Been stopped twice for tint. meter read 4.28%, luckliy no tickets.....just a yes sir I'll take it off!.....the cops are here have very dark windows on marked and unmarked cars I think its BS.....It is a little hard to see out of the rear window when backing up at night...but I like the look, and it not a daily driver

I know I will get pulled over one day by an officer I dont know and I will be pulling it off on the side of the road. Thats the policy with our PD down here. Officers discretion if it comes off immediatly or not.
I dont want to be a spectacle for bystanders so I ripped it off tonight. Now I am trying to get the adhesive off. Any input for a quick easy cleanup would be appreciated.

Cleaner with ammonia, Goo Gone, or other Goof Off type removers for the local hardware and a single egde razor blade.

Hot soapy water and a razor blade has always worked good for me. I hope I dont have that trouble here in LC when I'm back on the road!! Jeremy

Dont use a razor blade, your going to ruin your glass!!!! Ive seen too many people ruin a piece of glass and etch it because thats what they were told to do. If you have 2 good eyes and it gets tinted over again, it will stick out like a sore thumb...
That or drive down the road with your windows all the way down???
Best thing would have been a nice hot day and keep the car hot inside and rip the tint off in one full sheet, that way you dont have to deal with taking the adhesive off the window.
If you have to pull it off, get the glass hot and get a good yank on it, if you have exposed tint with adhesive on it, use steel wool... I think the last window tint guy said green scotch bright.. You might ask a professional before you ruin the glass.
