I was looking at some old pics and I haven't seen any yet that had Eagle GT's that were Raised Outline White Letter tires. They were all (that I saw) a solid raised white letter.

Do any of you have pics of factory stock GN's (taken way back in '86 or '87) with raised outline white letter tires? Mine are of a new GN as delivered in '87 and they are solid white letter tires.

I didn't think the outline white letter tire became popular until into the '90's but I certainly could be wrong.

Any pics out there?

Then again my TTA had Firestone Firehawks and you can't get much better than those...
wow. we have had opposite experiences with everything, my friend that works at firestone told me never to get firehawks.

You're right. The pics I was looking at were after I had replaced the tires - I found the other pics (when the car was new) and it had ROWL black.

I had Firestone Firehawk FZ50s on my TTA. It had only 3 upgrades being chip, downpipe and no cat (more boost of course). It pulled a 1.83 60' with those tires on 40 PSI and NO track prep (no sticky stuff). I ran a best of 12.93 with those tires and reacted like drag radials.....very sticky and excellent all around road performance. Members of the TTA email list highly recommend Firehawks...

Back in the day, those GT's were hated by most everyone who drove them in the rain or snow. Poor traction, terrible wear, not all-season but great for body shop business! So Good Boot came out with the GT+4 all season. It was a great replacement for the originals. The GT's last sold at @ 118.00 ea. and the + 4's were 124.00 in 1990. IMO the GT II's were a cheap imitation but they were safer than the GT's. Many times over the years I've been asked to get some of the original ROWL's with no luck. I doubt those 20's and 24's that won't even last as long as the GT's and ride like stones are any cheaper? Congrats to Brett for stepping up to the plate.

Excepting the background noise, this thread is about a fellow board member who was willing to pay big cash for a set of rare, original tires.

Frankly, I hope TRs go the way of $1500 tires and $500 wiper blades.

Hey, anybody want my used radiator hoses for, say, $200 - a real steal!!!

:D

If I drove my car in water, I'd offer to have doubters drive my GN and see what we're talking about.

I guarantee this, if your car is in any degree of a turn and it hits 2nd gear in just a tiny amount of boost you better hang on cuz the rear end's coming around....let alone on wet pavement. And this is on a 100% original vehicle.

Hey, if you have one for a TTA you could get that and then some. NO ONE makes TTA radiator hoses and GM hasn't stocked them for years.

maybe the 215/65/15's weren't the same construction as the 245's on my dads vette, i couldn;t get those to squeal at all. the GtII's and radial T/A scream in the turns  I never had a problem with the set that was on my ss either and its a daily

I went out an put a set of Eagle GT's on my SC360 back in 1982.

They were $103 per tire, which was a lot back then. Overall handling was way ahead of most cars of the day, but then, .72 on the skid pad was a big deal.

The tires let out a high pitched squeal when spun. People used to the tearing sound of the hard radial T/A's of the era pointed and made comments.

They wouldn't howl in corners unless driven very hard.
