Just read some great articles (most recently in Autoweek) about these two street warriors and they both sound pretty impressive. Just wondering which one YOU would buy and why?

Mitsu Evo all the way!!!!!

I've heard horror stories of the new motor in the WRX pinging under stock boost and on pump gas. The 2.5l motor is brand new which frightens me off... The Evo's 4G63 motor is tried and proven!

I would NEVER buy another Mitsubishi. Their customer service and support just plain sucks. Notorious for blowing head gaskets and cracking heads.

I rode in an Evo for the first time the other night, and I must say......WOW! This thing had nothing aftermarket but a fart can and a short shifter but it felt really quick. Their turbo doesn't sound as cool as ours, but when you shift it sounds soooo sweet. But the most amazing thing about this car was the handling. We did an auto-cross style run through a parking lot and found myself using both "oh sh!t" bars most of the time. This car takes corners that most people wouldn't think about taking at 1/4 of that speed. I was very impressed. As far as the STi, my buddy is a Subaru tech and he has done tranny work in 4 Sti cars already, non of them having more than 8K miles. To me, that screams no quality.

Thankx!

518whp sounds nice to me:)

Thanks for the link - I checked it out (25 freakin' pages on that thread alone!!!???) and it was amazing. Those Evo boys have got there game together and the guy named Al with the 528 HP version has a SICK car.

I really admire his work and what he's done with his Evo. These are not cars to take lightly or just dismiss as 'rice'. 'Rice' or not, a lightly modded Evo is evil indeed unless you've got your game face on.

I read where the Evo pushes 19.5 psi boost stock. How can these cars run such high stock boost on pump gas? I predict headgasket problems in the near future for most.

I like how he admits to having over $13,000 in parts alone. The 20 seconds it takes to drain a nitrous bottle is pretty impressive too. A solid 50whp gain for spraying the Ntercooler (NO2 sparayed on outside of intercooler) for around $25 per 1/4 mile pass.

I guess speed does cost. It's just cheaper in USD than Yen :D :D

I bought an Evo

it is very impressive, the Sti is too. You would need to drive both and then decide. I got a silver evo because it is in my opinion a truer car to its rally heritage. I can say it is every bit as good as the people say, and more i feel. as for 19.5 psi stock, it has a good warranty. I am not worried about blown head gaskets, I have a gn and they never go on them do they?(even when new) ;)

Shouldn't 500+ HP at the wheels put a 3100 lb/AWD car into the mid to low 10's?

11.62 @ 121 'aint too great for the money spent => $50K+

He could have bought a Cobra and saved $15K.

Give me a TTA, a TA49 and $2K in mods and dudes going to be seeing tailights.

I went for a ride in an EVO around an Auto X course. Very Nice ride. I have seen both at the drags... I'd take the EVO.

what about the SRT-4? seems cool to me 2/3 the cost, about the same MPH in the quarter and it is a domestic.

I agree about the SRT, for under $350 Mopar will bump HP to 240 with a warranty. I have more opportunity to go fast in a straight line with my vehicles than auto cross.

The only problem I have with the SRT-4 is the fact that it's FWD where as the Evo and WRX are AWD........

I agree - that's the reason the poll was on the two imports only. However, the SRT-4 IS a wicked ride in its own way too. I'm just not a huge fan of FWD only in a performance car. Old fashioned maybe? :D

I agree with the front WD. I hate that too. I don't really like the AWD to much either though. It seems like it just adds more complexity, weight and more parts to break. wish they were just rear WD.... of course that is what all of us old schoolers think.

Wrong wheel drive.

Yes WWD. lol

but we have no alternative if we want a new turbo domestic.

You must never have driven an all wheel drive car.......

they are great in bad weather, rain, snow whatever. as a daily driver, why wouldn't you want one? they are safer, handle better
and they have better resale value than the comparable 2 wheel drive . they do not drive like a 4x4 truck, not even close. I can tell you that my evo will smoke the fastest gn(rain etc) out there in less than perfect conditions. not all of us car people live in sunny so cal. that is why audi and subaru sells so well, all wheel drive is great. these systems are so well engineered, that to think they just add weight is plain nonsense. is that what they said about the first cars when people were still driving horse and buggies? I can tell you that if most guys run up on a tweaked audi s4 or an evo(or sti for that matter)(with a driverwho knows how to drive) they are more likely than not gonna get embarrassed, cause when the gn spins the tires, the all wheelers are gone now! no spinning, no smoke, they hook right now and go. I have had a few fast gn's and still own one(and an evo) so i can compare them. the evo is quicker than my mild gn 0-60 at least maybe to 100 as well. And it will kill it really bad in any weather
