Update:

Got the TE60 on it. Got it cranked and let it idle for 15 minutes or so.... checked oil.... looked good.... still sounded a little funny.... took it for a drive... drove ok..... noise was hardly noticeable..... thought it might be some metal shield or something rubbing and vibrating on something.... had the boost cut almost all the way down on my HD actuator.... slowly got in it....ran decent....boost came up to 21 lbs or so.... felt good.... drove it some more..... made a couple of blasts.... came back home.... checked oil.... still looked good but engine still sounded kinda funny.... still was thinking it might be a metal cover vibrating on something....got DS out and fired it up... set the IAC/TPS..... took it out for a datalog run.... rolled into it at 20 mph or so... felt pretty good... but seemed to flatten out at the top of third.... once I let out.... the noise had gotten louder..... now it is no mistake.... there is something going on inside my 158k mile motor. Looks like I am going to pull it out and go through it.... The track will have to wait for awhile.

I guess I can do some upgrades while I am in there.

Update

Got the motor out tonight…. Pulled the pan… stacked at least one rod bearing (only checked the one I could see the bearing sticking out the side…. :( ) and spun at least one maybe two main bearings  . I might line bore my block… and go back with it….. I have 2 other turbo cranks (one is from a 40k mile GN) … and two other sets of 2 dot rods (one is from a 40k mile GN)… and a set of 40k mile GN pistons….along with my 158k mile GN pistons....I do have an extra 109 block... but it might need boring (had to knock a slight ridge out to get the pistons out)... which means new pistons....

I'll get all my parts cleaned up and in one spot.... and make some decisions on what to do next....

While I'm there.... gonna swap to a fresh tranny... (mine has 158k miles)... and get my Vigilante sent back to be cleaned and tightened up (currently it stalls almost 4000 RPM at 5psi boost).

Let the fun begin.

Probably did more damage than first thought when the chain let go.... I'd keep it simple with regards to putting her back together; you might want to check into getting a used engine to put into the car, then taking your time with the rebuild.

I've seen quite a few motors up for sale lately.....

Oh, yeah - Go roller! :D

Would be nice.... but I don't have the $$ and I want to ride before the end of the year.... I hope to get everything cleaned up and all the parts ready to see what my options are.... I would like to just re-ring and line bore my block... and go back together with my best crank (if clearances check out)... my best piston/rods.... and new oil pump.....new gaskets.. and re-assemble..... I'm doing it all myself.... except for the machine work....

Good point- here's a counterpoint to think about:

$150 or so for the block machine work (more if you have to turn the crank/resize rods to fit the crank/have pistons pressed/etc)

$150 or so for gaskets

$200 or so for bearings/oil pump parts/misc hard parts (head bolts, freeze plugs, etc)

$150 or so for a cam kit (if yours is wiped)

The parts bill above is $650, before the unforeseen costs that just about always come up....

If you pick up a running used engine for about $700-800, you have a few benefits:

a running car while you get the budget together for a good solid rebuild; and,
a running motor to sell later/keep as a spare.

Just something to think about.....
