Does anyone have any idea why when my car had a peg leg rear, it jumped into second pretty firmly. Not "shift kit" firm, but a nice jerk into second. We put in a POSI carrier, with the same 3.42 ring an pinion gears, and it just seems softer. The tranny has a fresh filter and Dexron III fluid. We're running about 17psi of boost with no knock. The tranny doesn't flare or act weird, it just seems like the 1-2 shift isn't as firm. We already reset the T.V cable a few times as well.
I'm thinking the engine doesn't have a chance to build RPMs as quickly because the tires aren't slipping as much, and with the stock worn valve springs, the car doesn't build rpms/pressure fast enough to really grab second. The highest shift rpm has been 4900 according to my logs, but it seems to be shifting around 4500 while in drive under WOT. What do you guys think? Should I not worry about it until after the valve spring job?

If all you changed was the carrier there wont be any difference in the way the car performs. The only thing that would change would be you having more traction. It wont change shift timing.

The timing isn't different, it's just softer. You don't feel it hit 2nd as hard.

I think you should add in a recalibration kit and CK servo before you modify the car.

I was thinking the same thing, but if the tranny is weak, wouldn't that just speed up it's death? It has 86k miles on it.
