160 Thermostat - California Smog Test

Hi

I drive an 86 TR that passes smog with the stock 180 thermostat. The chip is stock too.

Does anyone know, from personal experience, whether a 160 thermostat will allow the car to smog in California?

I want to avoid the hassle of a change just to find out that the car will not pass.

Also, what significant benefits will result from changing to the 160?
