Just to make sure, you do have the normally closed waste gate, right?

Yeah I think so .... Reid overhauled it and all that "stuff" was NEW. The new Turbo
(W/ all the Ceramic "innards" I think) had nothing on the old one ... (Both r' Dogs).

I'll never probably never drive it again anyway, *but still would like it too "work" Charlie ! :wacky:

The actuator rod should be adjustable. Shorten it up a couple of turns. It should be a ¼" to ½" short and then pulled onto the wastegate.

Or sometimes to test the turbo, I will hold the wastegate fully closed with a turnbuckle. It should build boost quickly, but you need to watch your right foot to make sure you don't overboost. If it doesn't help, turn holding to fully open to see if it makes a difference.

Understood fully. I don't remember "exactly" (the Watergate) , but remember I bolted it back together as an assy.
*I called Him (I remember) and asked a few questions back at the time, but things never really
went further after that.

"I gotta see what this ends up being Charlie" ... The things a "dead Horse" now .
I'd get it out and work in concert RIGHT NOW if it weren't so shitty out ! (blowing snow / sustained winds) ...

Your interest / time here are APPR. too no end !!

Charlie: Do you know if an after-market Starter is avail. for a "Pontiac 301" Engine's ?
*The reason I ask is because I have two of these (Regal's with 301's) and upon hot restarts they "lag".

Perhaps a gear reduction type (with greater torque) would cure this "small issue" ?

Call the problem "per-detonation", but only SOMETIMES.

BTW: The timings set correctly & again: "usually this is only during / after a "hot soak" upon a restart. (Only time it happens).

Load testing the Batteries, (the "old way" with a Sun VAT-40) .... I find their too be no issue there as well. (their OK).
*Just a thought*

I know, that You know EVERYTHING Man !

;- )

Best, Tom

LOL I don't know everything Tom, just a bunch of crap about cars. You might try to join up on the 301 garage site. The guys over there can give you a better idea of what's out there for parts you might need. Take a look at Canadian nascar's posts in this section and JR (owner of the 301 garage) has posted in it, and you can send him a PM about joining up. Joe knows a bunch on the 301 and the guys on that site know more about it.;)

OK Charlie, "I will do that".

BTW: I'd go with your opinions, ahead of most others FACTS ... ;)

Clogged catalytic converter?

Cracked manifolds? Exhaust leaks before turbo?

Sorry, "I missed this reply".

ANYWAY:

*IF ya take the air cleaner "horn" off, you do get some boost .... (The Cat's fine / no leaks B.T.W.)

*After that, (doing some checks) ... I put the car up, (and likely won't get it back out for some time), so I wasn't that worried
about the power "thing".

After going to my first car show (in my area w/ this car), I found there was no interest whatsoever in the car ... Maybe it's the color
or something ?
... BUT: ("around here anyway") ... If it's not a Chevelle or an Iroc, no-ones interested !

ALL the attn. always go too 'those types' of cars ...

anyway, I never drove it again, as I think it needs to "ripen".
