Im thinking of putting my car away for awhile and getting one as a DD. I heard they are fast and can take alot of abuse. what do you think? What would you pay for one?

My dad had one, an old cop car. They can def take abuse, the lt1 engine is top notch. The wheels and leather interior are very nice. It is def not nearly as quick as an intercooled buick and it wont get as good of mileage either. If you plan to roll 5 deep then it might be worth it otherwise stick with your buick.

my 94 Caprice 9C1 averaged 17mpg over the 3 years that i had it- the best i ever saw was 23mpg on a couple of interstate road trips.
those numbers are identical to my 84 T Type, but honestly, i liked the Caprice better over all.
it was a good car- the LT1 made a lot of torque, always started no matter how hot or cold it was outside, and it had no problem hitting the fuel cutoff in the ecm- it would pull and pull and pull then just stop going faster with no drama at all. it drove like a car that was half it's size, and people would slow down and get out of the way when they saw me coming..

I would like them more if they didn't come with that Opti-spark.

I always liked them....and then I saw the Mercury Marauder...and I like that car better.

yeah yeah....it's a Ford.... ;-)

I got a super clean 96 with 6?k miles on it I will move for $11,500:biggrin:

I liked my 96 for what little I owned/drove it. Didn't have to deal with it but that damn opti can be a pain. Missed the boost of a Buick so I was able to trade it in on my WE4 at a Toyota dealer of all places a few years back!

Did like the sound of the V8 and Flowmasters and she would get up and scoot but not like the Buick!Rode and handled very well for such a big car also.

As for what to pay for one.........the condition are you looking for is going to dictate the price you pay. Nice one's like Shane's are going to fetch good money.......wait Shane, only 6k on it and your asking only $11,500  I think that's the best deal you'll find anywhere.

Get to the Non Buick Cars for sale section or your gonna get spanked:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

Best car I ever owned. I sold mine about a month ago because I bought another car for a dd and this one was sitting and getting neglected. I drove the crap out of it and it was very reliable, drove like brand new at 160K + when I sold it. Handled way better than my buick, was a great freeway cruiser, and had plenty of get up and go. Messed with midgets all the time. Topped mine out at around 155mph, and it was still pulling!!! Some people had bad luck with the opti, it's one of those things. I never did, but I never had problems with the h2o pump either which is usually the cause of opti-spark distributor problems.

They can be found pretty cheap now, and they are a lot of bang for the buck. I sold my fine specimen for 6K, which was a good deal for the condition of the car! There is a local white 9C1 without the leather and wheels that runs great here locally for $2500 so there are good deals out there on these old tanks!

I just about cried when the guy drove off with mine. But he was very happy and excited...

I enjoyed mine for almost a couple of years. Done some bolts on but in the end, it just wasn't fast enough. Sold it and bought my T- type.

when the Marauder came out, they actually compared it to the 96 Impala SS right in the brochure... according to Ford's own literature, a car that was built 7 years prior was better in almost every way- more torque, better fuel economy, better skidpad numbers, better 0-60, better brakes, and a lower curb weight. the only things that Ford had to brag up was the 300hp DOHC Cobra engine (compared to the 260hp LT1 in the Impala), deeper rear gears, and analog speedometer. i think the limited slip rear was standard on the big Merc, too.
i almost bought a brand new Marauder that sat in the dealer showroom for over a year for $15k. it had like 30 miles on it, and the salesmen all told me that they never had a single person ask to take it for a test drive and very few people even bothered to give it a second glance. i think most people thought it was a fancy cop car or something..
no dealers would take it on a dealer to dealer trade, and they just wanted it gone. and this was not small town dealer- this was one of the higher volume Ford dealers in MN. it looked liek a nice car- and was comfy for me when i sat in it- but i decided that i liked my 9C1 too much and didn't want a car payment and the required full coverage insurance.

loved mine i had the 96 ss dark cherry with a cat back we alway's got 28 mpg on the hwy never checked city and twice we got just over 30mpg,i miss that car the most. had alot of power for such a big car i think they were like 4200 lbs.

I have owned a 95 for 10 years and it has never ever let me down. Gas mileage+...insurance+...and it just goes well with a Grandnational. When Darth Vader rides passengers he takes the SS Impala:cool:

I like them, but would prefer a Caddy DTS 00'-05' or a Merc Maur. first.

Cool cars, but the collectability keeps the prices up for what you get.
00'DTS is 300hp, more reliable, and a LOT more plush ---

the 9C1 isn't "collectible"- in fact, they are dirt cheap- despite having all the same mechanical pieces as the Imp SS, but with a few HD upgrades like bigger oil and transmission coolers and a beefier electrical system. the only thing the 9C1 is missing is the plush leather interior- and i've heard of people using readily available Bonneville interior pieces to make something that is very much like a real Imp SS, and GM still sells the Imp SS wheels.

I have a gray/green colored 95 w/ 2700 miles if anyone wants an essentially brand new one. ALways indoors in climate control.
We had 2 go over 140K miles before we sold them and never had any issues outside bumper fade and general maintenance.
