200-4R Builders: Anybody had issues with new Stators?

I had one that I got from Poston's, it snapped off at the pump after about 1000 miles. Phil

Yeah,
I built this unit some time ago and the customer was just getting ready to put it in the car and the converter wouldn't fit, so I had the customer take the trans and converter to a local shop to check the trans with a stock reman converter and check the converter with a stator or pump assy.

It was the stator shaft. Not burred or visibly damaged but just too large. (Not a problem I usually have :biggrin: )

I had one a couple of years ago that wouldn't fit but nothing recently. Another issue is replacing the bushing. It seems like the new stator supports have a larger I.D. for the bushing

I know the ones from tri component are not heat treated,they just put black oxide coating:frown: poor choice .

mike converter is better than before we put 930 and 1085 lbs ft. to the tires last week.all that thru a 4r70w:biggrin:

No problems here but i ll be checking all them before install them now. Im assuming you mean the support shaft that the stator slides onto. The stators in the converters have been fine.

Man, that was an awesome call today chris. I knew We (you and I ) could do it. That car just sounds sick!!!!! I would have loved to hear a tape recording of the drive with the customer . Congrats!!!

over the last several years i've had several that would not fit in the convertor-------the splines aren't machined accurately------a real pain when you discover it after its in the pump and installed in the tranny------made me so mad that i cut a stock convertor apart and have the mating part in my "pump tool" drawer and every stator i install i check it for fit..........RC

That's exactly the issue, splines machined wrong, slightly too big in diameter but mostly not deep enough.
