I just got ticky the time bomb, our 2500 Yukon XL back from the shop and the ticking is gone for good.
Turns out the Flexplate was cracked 360 degrees and has been held in by luck for the last 40K+ miles. If you have a 6.0L GMC that ticks at idle and you think its piston slap, lifter noise or an exhaust leak, check the flexplate for cracks at the crank flange. Our's idles like new, now.
Now it's good for another 100K miles. I hope the ticking hasn't been retarding my timing this whole time
