Hey Guys need a little help,

2000 Chevy Express van 1500
vortex V6 75k miles

was driven about 100+ miles yesterday multiple start and stops get back to shop last night no problem ran great.

This morning van wont start, cranks over but wont start

verified security light is off.

verified spark at the coil and with plug grounded to exhaust manifold

verified fuel pressure has 55 PSI key on and 60 PSI cranking, which is what it should have from what i read.

spark plugs dont look lean from what i can tell, so stumped

anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks
Dave

Ok not sure if this was the right way but

took trusty test light and

grounded it and back probed the pink wires and with key on the test light lit up

went to batt + and back probed the other wires no light, cranked and they would lite the test light on and off

also replaced the pick-up coil, and crank sensor

stumped??

also removed air filter and sprayed carb cleaner down inlet and nothing, not even a sputter

The big problem is you know it has spark but is it at the right time. These caps can be big problems along with distributors.I had a suburban 2 months back and the top of the shaft spun. Give it a shot of starting fluid first if it fires the pump may be bad. You might have 60psi but maybe not enough volume to pop off the injectors.
Has anyone performed a tuneup recently? Aftermarket caps suck on the vortec engines. I use all gm parts on these engines.
extended crank will set crank sensor code. how does the spark look? The coil wire is pretty common if shorted to trans dipstick
Did you check for spark at plugs?

any way to check if cap ( is assume you mean the part under the rotor) spun?

I checked fuel pressure while cranking and it fluctuates between 58 - 60 psi no real drop to think its a pressure problem, and i would think if the pump was going bad or losing pressure/volume that there would be some indication of lean condition on the plugs.

minimum pressure to open injectors is 55 PSI

I checked all fuses, and compression sounds good, from what i could tell while plugs were out and cranking engine

Cap and rotor, very common on these. I would try that for sure.

even with good spark at the plugs?

and by the way something that i thought was odd, was spark was bright white like a flash, and not the nice blue spark i'm used to seeing

The susburban I worked on was a first for me. I have never seen a rotor bracket spin on a distrutor before. Set it to #1 and see where the rotor is pointing. That one was nowhere near #1. I put a distributor and cap and rotor and it was fine. If you shot some carb cleaner and it didnt even pop tells me its not a fuel problem. The cap on these can arch from the coil track in cap to other points. Its hard to explain. Pull the cap and look at it and you will see what I mean.

Good News,

It was the coil.

call a good friend of mine 25 year heavy line mechanic at local chevy dealer,

broke down the scenario for him and he quickly told me its either the coil or coil module, and he has a spare for testing

plugged in spare, and it fired right up

now changing the coil is a whole other story, after having a lot of trouble read where people pulled motor just to change it, luckily didnt have to go that far, but did take 4 hour just to replace it.
