Hello
like the tile says, the vehicle will have a 350 hp 390ft lb of power in s 3900-4100 lb curb weight
what hard parts are a must, and what parts are, nice to have but not needed,
this 2004r came out of a'87 monte ls
and yes it will be driven hard..
it will have a 2400rpm stall converter with clutch
and I have a tci rebuild kit.
will be getting CKP manual on rebuilding this..
but I get lost in whats really needed at this level..

thanks

While you are ordering stuff from CK I would get his Servo, and shift kit.

I would install a new sun shell and stator support. If you have deep pockets, get a billet forward drum.
You might want to pick up a low/reverse tool to pull and install the low/reverse support. Other ways to do it but for the hassle the tool is much easier. Ebay for a used one, just have to watch to get a bargain. You will also need a way to compress springs to get clutches in and out but this can be done with ingenuity and some patience.

Not sure what is in the tci kit, but some raybestos clutches for the directs and over drive might be a consideration. You might want to get the overdrive apply ring ground .080" and install and additional clutch.

A good band for the second gear clutch. I like the raybestos black carbon unit. If your drum is good you might go with a wide one. Your call. I have never used a kevlar band in any of mine but it has been noted that these tend to burn and warp the drum so I stayed away.

a .500 boost valve and .296 rev boost with the associated springs. I believe these are in the ck kit but not sure. a 694 servo at the least if you decide to pass on the ck unit. Or you might go with the sonnax piece. The superior eliminates the cushion spring and has been noted to produce a downshift clunk.

Lots of options. You can make your own determinations. There are many that are much more accomplished than I am. I just hobby at it.

the TCI kit has the rebuild kit, a shift kit and filter but I have heard that running a different filte set up is best..
as the stocker feeds from the top..
haven't looked at the tci to see what it came with(stock) or 7004r style

Ok, the top feed filter does leave some to be desired, especially if you launch you car hard. Auto trans don't function well without fluid and when your pickup is uncovered, no fluid is the result.

If you are going with a deep cast pan using a 700r4 filter becomes easier. I have cut the filter tube on the 700r4 filter down so it fits under a stock pan. Also if you do this you need to tape off or find a means that the filter doesn't ground out the valve body switch. Plenty of discussion on this if you search.

Also search that tci shift kit. Not that it is bad, just that there are other options that may or may not be better for you. Again, your call.

Check out http://www.jakesperformance.com/200-4R_Tricks.html for some tips on valve body mods. I dont believe in the constant pressure mod but it is there. Scroll down for the mods I like. Also alkyv6's site. Don has a handle on the 2004r and some of his secrets are posted. http://www.drwtransmission.com/thm_200-4r.htm and http://www.drwtransmission.com/spring_specs_for_br2_VB.htm . I have some other links as well if you want to do some reading.

pts pan is the way to go an no need fr cutting a filter to fit ....

I skiped the whole process an let jannis build me 2 full bellt trans where i shouldnt have to worry about small issues. Just a simple rebuild next time
