Did brf trannys have a governor with 2 big weights, or did they all have 1 small weight and a large weight? I am getting a fast 1-2 shift no matter how hard i press the padal.

The 2-3 shift will take longer to shift if a press more on the gas pedal That seems normal.

You need a 694 or larger servo too.

How much do i have to pay for someone to help me out with some tech support? The 1-2 shift is way too fast at any throttle it seems the more i push the pedal the 1-2 shift occurs quicker the car cannot build any power before the shift.

I installed a transgo shift kit with billet servo. The shifts are super positive but the 1-2 shift is way too fast at any throttle. The car cannot even build enough speed to bark the tires becouse the shift is too instant. The 2-3 shift is ok, i drive normal 2-3 shift is ok if i lay on it the 2-3 shift takes longer like it should. The 1-2 shift is the shift i would like to straighten out.

Now i thought this was a brf valve body but the governor looks to be a different story. I left out the red tv valve spring and i did not install the yellow spring in the tv limit becouse the instructions on the kit said if it is a cz,br,bq ect.. valve body leave them out and use the ones allready installed.. It was shifting on point before this install just was a little sloppy.

Should i install the red spring in the tv valve and the yellow tv limit spring. should i put a Gn governor only? and not the springs mentioned? Just trying to gather enough info before i tear out the valve body again becouse i am workng on the ground and all you guys know it is rough down there

I feel for ya, but your dug in pretty deep... I cant stand that shift kit in a 2004r ....if it were my car I would start from stock with the large servo and perhaps a bigger boost valve. The correct governer will help but the transgo kit changes shift timing as well which is unnecessary.

I dont think it is a gn valve body anyways so i think the shift kit was the way to go with it. Everything is good except a fast 1-2 shift. Good pressures no tv and full tv it is healthy. Just that dang nabbit fast 1-2 shift at any rpm. Should i put a longer 1-2 shift valve spring in it?

The correct governor and gear would probably help your problem immensely.

You need to identify what vb and governor you have before we can advise. GN governor should have a light weight and no spring on the light weight.

It definately has 2 heavy weights on the governor. The trans tag is long gone, it does have a black plug. It looks like br7 on the side of the valve body but it is vague and the paint is kinda purple looking on the side.

At this point im treating this like it is a low pro valve body and governer.. I fully installed the transgo kit with billet servo, shifts are strong and if i manually shift the car it will bark the tires on the 1-2 shift and almost barks them on the 2-3 shift. If i drive normal it shifts normal, if i lay on it the 1-2 shifts hard and happens almost instantly and does not get enough rpm to bark the tires, the 2-3 shift happens normal it seems and if i lay on it the 2-3 takes longer to shift and gets enough rpm to jerk youre neck. Not laying on the pedal it drives normal but you can still feel the positive shifts. The 1-2 shifting to quick on full throttle is my prob...

On the instructions there is a red tv spring that says to leave out when using a cz,br,bq ect.. valve body which i left out becouse of the thought it was a brf valve body, it also states to leave out a yellow tv limit spring if it is the above valve bodys , transgo instructions claim the hot rod valve bodys do not need them. Im thinking becouse this may not be a hot rod valve body i need to install these springs. The govenor is defiantly not Gn one.

Since no one mentioned it, did you try adjusting the TV cable one or two notches away from the firewall? I'm far from experienced but have read many posts where a slight adjust either way on the cable has helped straighten out problems such as you describe. And I'm all for applying the KISS principle first. BTW, I have the Transgo shift kit in my 2004r and am very pleased.

So, it shifted well at some time in the past? Sounds like a diesel valve body or some other lo/po one. Have you looked at don Wang's site. A bunch of pix and info there also gnttype.org for info. TType6 is pretty knowledgeable as well as the site sponsors. I have gotten a lot of tech from emailing, pming and calling. I try not to be a bother as I know these guys need to make a living.

Where did this trans/vb/gov come from?

If it says br7 on the side then its a turbo buick valve body. The stamped numbers on the ends of the tv valves (visible without disassembly) should confirm it. Going off memory here but I think they were 15, 21, and F. We had a mcss come into the shop for a rebuild once and it had a heavy governor swapped into it and it was a turd until we swapped it out for the correct one.

I got it from a friend. He said it was from an 87 GN. There was no 1-2 shift when I first installed the unit no matter what I did. I pulled the vb and found crud all inside the valve body, I cleaned the unit out complete drove the car it was shifting good but wanted what I had in the car which i blew out the lo planet on in another thread.

So that's when the shift kit came into play since I have had a lot of success with it. I could swear it says br7 on the side with light purple paint also on the side. The br7 is extremely faded though. I think someone put a junk governor in it thou. I am going to have to get down on that ground again and put the Bq's governor in it and try.

I am going to have to tear it down again install the the proper governor and see. Thanks for the reply.

I do have a CK performance GN governor if you decide you need one. I also have a CK Performance valve body that is made to replace the BRF valve body in non BRF transmissions. LMK

I will keep that in mind thanks

Let me know if you need a vb/governor
