How much should a rebuild cost, with whatever basic mods, better pump, shift kit.., nothing crazy, is it easy to do yourself - what tools needed, anyone in SE MA , can it be done for a couple hundred? anyone able to help and show me some night, over a weekend or something, thanks, John.

Rebuild Cost
If your budget is $200-250, you're better off buying a few cans of silver spray paint, giving it a quickie paint job, new pan gasket and filter and driving off into the sunset with your "freshly rebuilt" trans.
You can build these cars right, or you can build them cheap. You can't often do both at the same time. Building cheap now often ends up costing much more later.
