87 Grand national are turning the big 25 this year. Whose getting an historical plate? Are we going up in value because of this?

Yup, got it on my 86. Next year for the 87

I was able to show my 86 for the first time this summer in the car show put on by the antique car club I belong to. All cars must be 25 y.o. or older. I joined the club about 5 years ago.

I just found out that I can't get one in Kansas until 35 years old! I'm going to try to get a special purpose plate.

wonder if they do personalized historic tags? Either way mine will have one as well as collector insurance to keep me from driving it so much! I cant stay out of it under my own will power lol...

In Kansas they do personalized historic tags.

Yep kansas is going to make us wait 10 more years. BUT they are one of the states that allow you to reissue an original plate from the year in which your car was made. So when they hit 35, instead of a generic white antique tag, I can use an 87 kansas plate, already got the plate LOL. Actually I have a shawnee county "sample" plate that was hung in the DMV for display. It reads X 00000 :) but they told me that there was more than one of those made so they can't let me use them (I have a couple from the 70's as well). Now I have only 10 years to decide if I want the early 80's blue tag or the late 80's white tag. LOL

How many mile can you drive with an historical plate. I drive mines and don't really like a big brother telling me what I can @ can't do.

In Wisconsin, they only had to be 20 years, So I've had a collecter plate on mine for 3 years now.

In TN you are limited to only driving on Saturday/Sunday, and only during the week if it's for a repair. This is why I'm buying a high flow cat, swapping it out with my test pipe and throwing a TT emissions chip on to pass emissions once a year to keep with a standard plate. I don't want to even bother with the cops haggling me because I'm out driving a car with historic tags when I shouldn't be, even if they probably won't.

It might be a little different over there in the big city. However, not quite so bad over here. The only time I've ever heard of anybody being asked about their historic plates is when they got stopped for some other infraction. Drive mine everywhere.

Smog test? what's a smog test?? Oh ya, you live over on "that" end of the state. ;-)

Tell me about it....this is the first place I've ever lived in TN (or anywhere) where emissions tests are required :(

Another reason is I kind of want a custom plate, and I'm not sure if they allow that with historic tags here.

I don't think you can get personalized historic plates here. But the beauty of the historic plates here is it's a "pay once only" (permanent) plate.

They do in Texas. I have had "FAST 86" for several years. A couple of years ago the car was down for awhile and I let the registration go. I had to reapply for the same plate. Got it back and now they say "Classic Auto" under the Fast 86. Sweeeet.

Was going to get a classic plate here in MN. Then the Lady read the stipulation. "Can only be driven on weekend and holidays." I asked what about a nice day during the middle of the week and I want to drive it to work once in a while. She said by law a cop could write you a ticket for driving it other than days stated for the tag.

FAIL

None the less I dont have the tags!

I can do Antique tags wow these cars are old! :) Here is what PA has to say....

“Antique Motor Vehicle” - a motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured more than 25 years prior to the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformance with manufacturer specifications.. Replicas are not permitted. To qualify for these plates, the vehicle must be primarily used for antique exhibitions, parades, and related activities. The vehicle may be driven one day a week for routine transportation use. The plates cost $75, and there's also a $22.50 certificate of title fee. These are one-time fees, as the plates are permanent and remain valid for the life of the vehicle, provided there's no change in ownership.

Hey also don't forget guys the BPG (Buick Performance Group) is throwing a big bash for the 25th anniversary of our turbo Buicks for 2012! So mark your calendars and bring your Antique cars out to Ohio next summer!! :D The date of the event is August 3rd and 4th 2012 @ National Trail Raceway Hebron, Ohio

I should treat myself and go to the BPG event. :) I'll be double the 87 TR' s age on Aug. 01. :D

Should be a great year in Ohio for the turbo Buick owners! Going to be a sea of black that's for sure. I even updated my sig for it! :) BPG has armed guards at the hotel and track so your cars will be safe!

I'm going to think about that one. I want one but I would love to drive whenever I wanted. August 2-3 I definitely got to attend that one.
