I have a ported heads/cam car with a 3400 converter & a trans brake. Car "should" go mid/low 11's this year. Going to go with a mt street radial when/if I can get them. Tires will be going on a 15x8 w/ 4" b.s. wheel. Stock 3.42 gears.

Which tire 275/60/15 = 28" tall or 275/50/15 = 26" tall?

thanks for the help,
doug

Make this a "sticky" lots of repeat questions about this

If I may be so bold as to ask, why all of you have chosen the 60 series over the 50 series?

Be bold and ask:biggrin:

275/60 is a 28" tall tire= equates to better mph in the 1/4
275/50 is a 26" tall tire.

I vote for 325/50!!

The 275/60 will give us a 3.18 rear gear for better MPH and the taller tire will not spin as easily while launching.
Go to a 30" tall tire and you get a 2.96 rear gear which can really wind out 3rd up top.

Here is what it will look like if you put 275/60 on your TR. Just in case you need some visual convincing.

BFG's w/4.5 BS oh I have wheel spcers on it. I believe the wheel spacers are 1/2 inch. I have 1.5" clearance on the inside wall. Works great!

50 series would net better 60' (provided you hook), correct? And if you run the 1/8, 50 would be a better choice? 5000 rpm on 50's would be 4600 on 60's.

I like my 275/50's much more for street / 1/8 mile usage.....

IMHO, of course...

a question here......

i use a 275 50 15 drag radial on a gbody parts 15x10 gn rim
with 4.5 back spacing( i think)- what ever he sells them at

any way it rubs the frame and also rubs the lip( small cuts in the outside of tire)
if it has more then 24 psi in the tire(street use/ cornering)

so would a 275 60-15 be worse or better?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

The 275/60 should be a little bit narrower, but you better have the bags pumped up to avoid contact.
As far as tire choice goes, when my car had 26" tires, it mph'd 115, changed to 28's and it went to 118. O lot more traction on the launch as well. JMO.
