I have a stock GN rear end with the G-80 option. I believe I still have the original 28-spline axles. I have an axle seal that is leaking (even after installing a new one). I suspect that my driver's side axle may be grooved where it rides on the bearing, so I'm considering a new set of axles. Are any other mods required if I end up having to replace axles and bump up to 30-spline axles? Seems like I'd have to change out something inside the pumpkin to make the 30's fit.

I can't imagine I could just pull out 28-spline axles and throw a set of 30-splines in. Seems like I might have to re-do the whole thing.

You need to change the carrier to a 30 spline. I like the Eaton units. They usually drop right in. Then of course you want the 30 spline axles. Be sure to order them with through bolted studs and be sure to loc-tte those studs before installing the axles. Ive had them partially back out when not thread locked when removing lugs and not realizing it it tore up the brake hardware and snapped the head off the stud.

Thanks for the help, Bison. I didn't figure it was as easy as slipping in new axles. I'll probably stay away from going to 30's - I'm not running serious horses yet & probably won't be there for years anyhow. Never enough time to do what I want; only what I hafta!!

One nice thing is if you go to 30's in a couple years you will be able to get back $400 selling your stock replacement Moser 28's and your stock limited slip

The outer axle bearings are pretty easy to install while you are tearing into anyways. Rent a bearing puller/slide hammer to make it easy to get out.
