I am at a point where I'm running out of rpm. I am at about 5700ish thru the traps (123mph). I have been using 26" tall ET streets (they seem to only measure 25"). I know most people go to 28" tires at this point which is what I will probably do. But I started thinking about different gears instead of worrying about what tires will fit or if they'll rub, etc.
Besides being taller, do 28" tires provide that much better traction? Would I get the same benefits from some 3.23 gears? It seems like the TurboTA's do real well with these gears.

Definitely pass on the 3.23's dude. Some 28's are only 27" tall. Some guys run 29's to attain 28". Read the MT/Hoosier/McCeary/M&H websites and learn which slicks you are looking for.

it's a lot cheaper and easier to run taller tires, than to mess with the differential!

i'd go with 28" tires before 3:23 gears

or you can go back to 2004r and run a lockup converter.

27" tire at 127 mph was 5500 with converter locked

now i got some 28/12.50 et streets and looking to break 130 next trip

Red, that 70-1 kicks butt doesn't it, I like mine alot!

:D yea it does....once i get my converter back i'll get to feel some holeshots and get some et's.. i was only running 2800 with it but going to 3400 now ;)

Try a pair of 29X9 slicks and you will be pleased. Your 60' times will increase (more tire sidewall, more flex, better bite). and your ET's will decrease. Don't change the gears. BTW the 29X9 fit great in the wheelwells.
29X10's rub.....Ask me how I know.

UNGN posts a lot of info on the 28" tires. Here is the most recent post with excellent info, read the entire thread:

rob crisafulie {sp} runs a 3:23 gear on the dark limited to off set the bfg drag radials that are on the car- 25 inches tall

you can borrow my 28x10.5 et drags when ever you want-

id like to be there-

call me

I'll probably take you up on that Bryan. You think I'll need some airbags so those 28x10.5's won't rub?

Those 29x9's sound interesting also...
