Good morning all I've not been on this site for some time I used to have a small collection of Turbo Trans Ams but sold them to buy a house wish I never did presently what I have that may be up for sale but I cannot find anything that is something to compare to

My next door neighbor is looking to sell their 87 Grand National they bought the thing new it has 300,000 miles on it it was not very well kept but it is still a running everyday driver no rust at all paint basically shines but definitely shows where I will try to get some pictures of it but the garage is tight.

I'm trying to figure out what this car may be worth I can really not find one that is in this bad of shape or this high of miles.

This is basically an all original 300,000 MI Grand National one owner adult own.

Any ideas on what a car like this may go for would be greatly helpful.

He's basically in a situation where he's going to lose his house if he doesn't catch up on payments and this is going to be a big deal for him having owned the car for such a long time

Being a GN, the for sale price will vary, even with high miles. To get some clarity you definitely need photos of car, engine bay and undercarriage if possible. Being a one owner car for 37 years, Service and maintenance records would help out tremendously.
I hate to hear owner is going through some rough times, as that car, I'm pretty sure is a big part of the family. GLWS.

Any strong GN is worth something. Even at 300k miles. I am sure you saw the recent for-sale here that had a very good mid-mile GN from a member for $30k. > My GN for sale

I thought that was cheap, but its his car / not mine. With that said, $18-$19 for a solid high-mile driver?

Anytime I see a GN in the teens its sold in a week.

Having no rust is a big plus. Mechanically , things can be fixed as needed. I think I would sit down with him and get a feel for what he wants. If he is emotionally attached to it , he may be thinking that it is worth way more than it really is. If this is really the only way to save his home, he may be more rational. Without pics it is a big guessing game for everyone. If it makes sense to both of you then you will both be happy. Good luck.

If it’s truly rust free $15-20k is what I’d expect. More if the paint isn’t too bad. More again if the interior is clean.

I should be able to post pictures we're pulling the car out of the garage sometime today and putting it into a cleanup stage making assessments I will post here today or tomorrow with update

That's pretty impressive to run one of these cars to 300k with no major issues, thats the highest mileage GN ive ever heard of, cant wait to see the pic's

Here are some pics of the car a few months ago when doing a brake job

my 2 cents........... at 300k miles, EVERYTHING will need attention, front to back, it ALL will need some care, (funds) susp, eng, trans, rear end, etc,etc

I guess to give everybody an update I actually took possession of this car in order to help the family out financially total investment $15,000 a small trade of another vehicle and a cash offer however probably a serious mistake because I have many of you have pointed out everything is bad were equally worn within one week I now have over $4,000 in Parts showing up to my door just to make the thing drive down the road straight and the pass inspection ironically the man is truly senile I am discovering new things every day about the car one of his relatives say he paid $8,000 to have a new motor put in he says he's never touched the transmission but the thing chirp second gear and go sideways every time it shifts there was some light Bondo in the rear quarters then he tells me that he paid someone to weld in new quarter panels in a garage kept car which from what I understand it has been garage kept legitimately but not all garages are good for cars car has no AC he took that off the gain an extra one horsepower for some odd reason put the replacement pulley system instead of the compressor I could kill him overall the car is a daily driver and not in that bed of shape it actually goes pretty good however you get detonation at 15 lb of boost turn the Boost back down to 12 lb in the car runs amazing having some familiarity with these vehicles I am going to attempt to get a adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a few other things on the car but I anticipate I am now digging a hole so deep I will never be able to get out of it but my love for these cars cannot stand to see what this one has been put through and neglected I will probably be getting the thing into a much healthier situation and then before I nose dive into losing too much money I'm probably going to put the car up for sale but there is no way I could turn this thing over to another human being with a sound conscious with the things wrong with it and I had a retired mechanic who is working 8 hours a day for 5 days straight on the vehicle and every day he is doing something different so the cost is not that bad but I will be screaming past $6,000 invested in this thing by the end of the week sorry for the lack of punctuation and all of that I am literally using my voice to text program and I do not feel like typing all this out or even going back and looking through it it is too late at night and I've invested too much time into this already so just excuse all the poor English and all of that but at least anybody reading this gets an idea of the update I'm offering will try to attach some pictures
