I've done a couple into Turbo Buick applications now. It's not very difficult. You'll need to do a driveshaft and yoke swap. Let me know if you need pics or details.

The only down side I see with the 4l80E is the controller needed to make it shift automatic .The last time I checked they were like $1,200 for the computer.

completed a swap into a 60 Impy vert/490" 409.
The controller was nowhere near $1200.00
Interested? I can get the info for you.

Chuck's correct. I can get you a trans computer with wiring harness for around $500. The 4L80E with withstand much more hp and abuse the the 200-4R. You won't regret it.

A 4L80 weighs 38 lbs more than a TH400, a 200-4R is about the same as a 400. I'll weigh one tomorrow.

My GN weighed 3550 full weight with a TH400 and Me. Now I have a fuel cell, glass front bumper, Alum heads & No AC. If I run TSM again that 38lbs will help. cool! ;)

Guys have swapped over to 4L80E trans in there Syclones & Typhoons.

One guy that swapped over a 4L80E in his Sy & raced it many times before w/a 700R4 ,did the swap, made absolutly no difference in ET or MPH, but now, he can beat the crap out of it & it wont blow up.700's get blown up left & right in Sy/Tys,switch to a 4l80E,then no more tranny problems.

The main thing that weighs so much on the 4L80e's are the stock torque converters, they weigh a ton.

Run a smaller converter & the weight difference is not as much,between a 700R4 & a 4L80E.

yeah 260 lbs WITH the stock 13" converter.

A 4L80E is 178 lbs, a 200-4R is about 140.

It's not going to kill the car, we've gone from a TH400 to a 4L80E in a 10 second car and actually gotten faster ET and MPH...

I thnk the swap is a good idea into some cars making serious power.Iworked with a shop in Philadelphia on one recently and overall it was a good upgrade.

???
I've seen an article about removing considerable amts of rotating wt out of a t-400. Given the similarity of the 4L80E, mite the same/similar mods be done??

The front andrear carrier tables can be made out of billet aluminum to reduce weight. The output shaft flange can be drilled, forward and direct drums can be skimmed in some places etc. Most of this stuff doesnt equate to something we can measure although it does help.
